Since I’m trying to convince a friend who has some reservation due to Anne Rice’s previous stance on fan works, do you feel as if RPing from the Vampire Chronicles is in any way problematic?
[I don’t know the current SJW definition of the word “problematic” so I’m going with what the dictionary explains, which is smtg “constituting or presenting a problem or difficulty.”]
So AR had commented thusly on her FB, 2014 (might be a different year):

…but currently she seems to ignore it. Huzzah, right? I think so!
I can’t recall her having an issue with RPers. Not sure why, but maybe she doesn’t see RP as being fanfiction in that it’s a series of responses. There are fics and published works that write from different characters’ POV (Queen of the Damned did that, for example) but seem to devote whole chapters to each POV.
We had a situation recently in which a VC RPer was sent what we now consider to have been Anon-hate that was written to look like a real Cease & Desist letter (which is what we get when AR wants our grubby hands off her precious bbs). We believe it was a particularly cruel way to send Anon-hate.
So I think you’re clear, no problems. Go RP!
However, your friend may have other reservations about RPing, too. There are a lot of things to consider, among which:
- Are you over 18?
- Are you willing to RP with people under 18?
- Are you willing to RP smut and R-rated scenes?
- Are you willing to RP with OC’s and other fandoms?
- Are you willing to RP AU?
- Is your muse a canon or original
character?
- Is your muse multi-ship (can have more than one relationship at a time in different threads)?

Or you could try to play a role for someone, keep them on the surface as long as you can… they may leave ANYWAY bc you weren’t willing to open up.
Let’s throw away the idea of capturing someone like a fish on a line and trying to claim them, some kind of bizarre ownership situation. Share as much of yourself as you are able to, and if they leave because of what they learn, then you can enjoy the time you spent together and be free to find someone who is more compatible with you.
You may never find someone who is perfectly compatible with you. OTP’s are a great thing to fantasize about but not necessarily realistic.
Be happy on your journey through this life, take care of yourself, and if someone shares that journey with you (as a friend or as a significant other) for a period of time, great, if not, also great.
Throw away the idea that you need someone to complete you. You complete you.
Am I the only goth who is really uncomfortable with “Hannibal” due to the horrible transmisogyny in “Silence of the Lambs”?
I think you have to consider Silence of the Lambs was written in 1988 and the knowledge the general public had about transsexuals let alone their attitude towards them was a whole different ball game than it is today. Thomas Harris, for the crassness on how the subject is treated, does a decent job of explaining that being transsexual does not make one a serial killer considering the time era.
All great works of art are products of their time and will reflect that. You learn to acknowledge without it getting in the way of your enjoyment. Just like other great works of literature reflect the racist and sexist time era they were written in but that doesn’t devalue their significance.

♛Well sometimes teachers do die, it’s a sad fact of life. Claudia’s teachers had a shortened life expectancy, unfortunately for them. If you kill all your teachers, you’ll have to accept homeschooling, and you have to ask yourself whether your parents are talented enough for that bc I CERTAINLY WAS.

♛Ever?! It’s been five days, child! Have you considered that I am a Rock Superstar and might have a packed schedule trying to catch some facetime with the Pope while he’s in the US?
Think of my perspective: if I say yes to you, I have to say yes to everyone, and there are only so many hours in a night. Perhaps I’ll have to visit unannounced to take you up on your offer privately.
Further, watching a lion kill is nothing like watching a vampire kill. Lions do not, to my knowledge, have long drawn-out evenings with their victims, plying them with charm, drinking in their last hours, before spiriting them away to an alley to suck a gallon and a half of blood out of them. And then trying to find the best way to dispose of the mortal coil that’s left over. I need to make friends with a cannibal like Dr. Lecter to take care of that aspect…
I can’t even convey to you how twisted my victims can be. I detest sex offenders and yet, since by nature they work alone, they’re easier to draw out than drug dealers, who tend to have a whole entourage these days.
You don’t want to be around sex offenders. You’re too precious for that.
