I found an article with Jared Leto being the new Lestat. I think every Vampire Chronicles fan is dying of excitement right now X)

@i-want-my-iwtv replies: Thanks for finding this, @aafmun!

[[BTW if you guys don’t want to see this in your dash, I tag articles like these as #VC news.]]

The fandom is currently dying of excitement or misery or something inbetween! It’s only been ONE DAY since Josh Boone tweeted that pic of Jared Leto with the caption “Lestat – there can be only one.” and I’ve already seen tons of support and tons of hate for this possible casting choice.

Let underscore that.

this possible casting choice.

From the article: “Well, he may very well have his next role already lined-up, as the new vampire Lestat.”

“Not only did Boone reveal the upcoming film, he Tweeted a photo of Leto with the caption “Lestat – there can only be one. #JaredLeto .” Leto will be starring in the role originally played by Tom Cruise in the 1994 classic.”

^Despite the last line thrown in there by the author, who has not provided any other evidence than the tweet, we don’t know if it’s official yet. @cloudsinvenice informs us that the pic is NOT Josh Boone playing dressup with Leto to make him into their version of Lestat; it was from Leto’s instagram, March 2015:

NOW, if I was Josh Boone, I wouldn’t tweet something like that with such a bold statement unless:

  • A. I had already been talking w/ Leto about it and he was interested, or
  • B. I wanted to get Leto’s attention on the project and see if he was into it.

EITHER WAY… Let’s all be cautiously optimistic. I’m not saying I’m 100% convinced yet but Leto has alot going for him:

  • He is currently very hot and he doesn’t age.
  • He is an actual rockstar and has all the singing and stage presence that goes with that.
  • Did you see him in Alexander?? Is this not what happened? He’s willing and able to bring the sensuality to the role that we could never have before *u*

As utterly repungant as I find his behavior on the set of Suicide Squad he does have a few traits that I had hoped for in an actor playing Lestat

He’s an older actor, but not old. Lestat is supposed to be around 20 years old physically, but really requires an actor of experience to play him well.

He can sing, like, this guy is the main part of 30 Seconds to Mars, and here’s a nice Lestat song they’ve done.

So we might actually get a soundtrack out of this, that might be decent. (Remember how despite its myriad of failings, Queen of the Damned had a fun record to go along with it, including a fake website for Lestat’s band?)

I mean he has the slimmer/lithe build that Lestat is often headcannon’ed to have?

I’m still scared, still worried, but then again….I mean Tom Fucking Cruise played Lestat and killed it. I don’t want to pass too much judgement until we know more

^Agreed on all counts.

Every time I look at your art I get so depressed because I know I will never be that good.

:

Noooooooooo. 😦

Can I tell you a secret, though? My favorite style of art isn’t mine. It isn’t realism.

I like what I make because it feels the most like me. And I like lots of kinds of art, but my favorite styles that I like looking at the most are probably not what you’d expect from a photorealist. I like things like animated gifs and fan art and street art and vaporwave and amateur comics. I like selfies and cosplay and little kinky cartoons and monsters and cats in space. You know why that stuff is my favorite? Because it’s not about being “good.” Or being realistic or whatever. It’s about being yourself. To me, “good” art is when you can see the artist in the art. My favorite style of art is the artist.

And everyone is already themselves, you know? Everyone has opinions about what is pretty or what inspires them. Everyone has an artist in them. You just gotta figure out how to show it, which you will. All it takes is time and practice.

I already think you’re good. ❤

Rereading The Vampire Lestat and I recently discovered the glory that is actual Lestat Martin Rolinski. Cue these doodles.

“Savage”

Exploring the darkness 3/?

“When had it happened that arterial blood was not enough, and he must rip out the heart and suck it dry also? When had it started that he had to lick the most vicious wounds for the little juice they would yield? He could exist without this, yet he couldn’t resist it, and so he sought—or so he told himself—to make the very most of it when he feasted” – Prince Lestat, chapter 8, Marius and Flowers

There’s something so delightful in seeing Marius depicted outside his usual elegance and poise. I’m falling in love with this piece the longer I look at it.

#AGREES AGGRESSIVELY

(different anon) I read all your posts about Anne Rice’s really strange views on her own characters (Gabrielle being a bad mother like bitch where!?) and I just decided to settle for not caring about AR’s opinions. She is just a human being, and I think me and her see the characters pretty differently, which shouldn’t prevent me from loving them on and on :D

I, PERSONALLY, don’t need AR’s validation of my opinion on canon. We all have our own headcanon. We can all love the characters in our own way. A good story (or piece of music or art, or whatever) DOES make you “read between the lines,” it DOES make you curious. It leaves things open enough for you to fill in the blanks. It doesn’t need to explicitly state everything for you, and the author has no obligation to do so, either. This has been true ever since the very first story was ever told, the first artwork ever made.

Most of all, I’m forever grateful for the gift she has given us. I don’t have to agree with her to still feel that gratitude.

If you don’t like a character’s trajectory in canon, that’s what fanworks are for 😉 Just try to be respectful of each other, abide by the Fandom Laws and we can all enjoy it all together, which is what we all want, right?

what they say: I’m fine
what they mean: Why is there so little Vampire Chronicles fan activity or content? Where is the fanbase? I understand that it’s older but the appeal is still massive. This is something that you can like for years and years and not get over. Why is it there aren’t hoards of new fans every year? What can you want more than beautiful bisexual vampires? I mean Anne Rice practically invented the modern vampire genre. There’s dozens of shows and book series that owe their creative careers to her. She is one of the bestselling writers of all time!!! The fact that there isn’t a bigger active fanbase especially since Prince Lestat’s release kind of blows my mind. I mean there was even a blockbuster motion picture with an allstar cast. How are there not more new young fans? How do we get more? Like I know so many people who have seen and enjoyed the movie but where is the huge cult following behind the film and the books?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

You Want to know why?
Because Anne Rice likes to sue your gloriously blushing butt-cheeks off if you DARE to produce fanfiction of her characters and works.
And most book based fandoms thrive from fanfiction, the telling of stories how it could be (or should be) or what might have happened IF ONLY…..
Then fanarts are created for said fanfictions and for the original books as well, if they have content that is worth ‘arting’ for. But Anne Rice isn’t loyal to her characters and one of the reasons she likes to sue fanfiction-writers is because they might have better ideas than she. Or the same and it might look like she was stealing that idea.

Then there is the fact that her books have lessened in quality with each new book. (An oppinion many of the fans I know share.)
From MY point of view… only two and a half books are even worth reading (out of thirteen)and one movie worth watching (“Interview with the Vampire”! I wouldn’t bother watching “Queen of the Damned”…), because she doesn’t care to check canon facts, names, dates and characters.
The only one she cannot possibly write OOC is Lestat, because he canonly is all over the place with his ego anyway.

This Fandom, for most parts, lives on Head-Canons. Like “Imagine Nicolas de Lenfent faked his death somehow” or “What if Akasha and Enkil had actually loved each other till the very end and they had a deal to come back together after her little interlude with Lestat and playing goddess”.
And how do you present your Head-Canons to the fanbase? Mostly through fanfiction. (Which you can get your pretty butt sued off for.)

Most activity in the VC-fandom is limited to roleplay and some fanart/cosplay. Because she hardly can sue that.
And that is why there is so little movement in the fandom. We enjoy what good she did (Creating the characters we love) in silence, keeping to ourself with few friends in many little covents, so to speak.

ok bb so imagine, louis being so attached to the ‘ mortal coil’ as he is, in extension having a hard time with the idea of monogamy & like??? letting it go? if he’s in love with lestat, when they are apart, even if louis has /lingering/ denial, he will not sleep with anyone else. MEANWHILE lestat… lm a o sleeps with everybody
