favorite vampire movies/series or books?
Books:
Dracula, of course. If you dig the epistolary format, I suggest you check The Historian. I am not the biggest fan of the “Stoker’s Dracula is Vlad III” theory/Florescu’s stuff, but the book is still beautiful and the characters are nice and good and very human. Then the “alternate international versions” of Dracula, like Powers of Darkness or Dracula in Istanbul.
Let the right one in. This one feels sad, dark and oppressive. I really loved it.
After 90 years. It’s a short novella, but you all should read it if you are into folkloric vampires over modern ones.
Movies:
Shadow of the Vampire, Byzantium… there’s also a load of good versions of Dracula to choose from. Then there’s Van Helsing, which is my guilty pleasure.
I’m going to be living in the french quarter for a week in march for work – any recs on places i should visit etc?
Yes! A whole week is plenty of time to wedge in VC location visits around the work-related stuff ;D
FYI in my list, I have things in the French Quarter, the Garden District (you can take the streetcar to get there, or walk, if you have the time/interest, it’s 2.5 miles away), and then outside the city are swamp tours (which I really want to do next time I visit) and the plantation houses (Pointe du Lac!).
These aren’t in any geographical order, just the order I’m thinking of them:
+ Gallier House – A must-visit, this is the flat AR based Rue Royale on. They give tours bc it’s a historical site. It’s not expensive, book in advance. They also have a gift shop and I got a nice necklace there.

^My estimation of the room assignments bc reasons. Re: “slave quarters,” that’s unfortunately part of the history of that building 😛 but I think by the time L/L were there, those rooms were used for storage bc there’s little closet space in the living quarters, and the maids they hire don’t live with them.
Note: @gairid considers the flat across the street (1127) to be the true home of L/L bc the balcony is much more verdant, and you know Lestat would have all kinds of flora on their balcony! It’s a private residence, though.
+ Oak Alley Plantation – this was used for Pointe du Lac plantation in the movie. It’s a ways away, like 45 min outside NOLA? Maybe more, but worth the trip! You can pay for the bus tickets and tour package, get there and wander around, there’s food and historical info, highly recommend. Allegedly, Brad Pitt still visits and he stays in one of the guest houses.

Note: They also filmed at neighboring Destrehan Plantation, but I haven’t been there, idk if it’s worth going.
+ Madame John’s Legacy –
632 Dumaine St, this is the scene in which a family’s worth of coffins are carried out; Lestat & Claudia had been so gluttonous. This building is sometimes open to the public, the last time I was there they had a cool ceramics exhibition.

+ Jackson Square – mentioned in canon pretty often, you can’t really go to NOLA and not visit.
+ The Cabildo at Jackson Square – I didn’t go in, I think you can. This is where Lestat watches Claudia kill, that same gate is there, you can go hang out in front of it and pretend to watch your vampire daughter kill a victim.

+
Court of Two Sisters
–
613 Royal St, I really enjoyed the Sunday brunch, there’s a cute little courtyard with fountains, and live music sometimes. They had this oreo pie that like… dangerous.
+ Cafe Du Monde – mentioned in canon, they serve like 2 things, beignets and coffee (nothing super fancy), very affordable, and are almost always crowded, but totally worth it. If you go around the back there’s a window where you can see them making the beignets!
+ Arnaud’s – very good restaurant in the French Quarter
+ Port of Call – 838 Esplanade Ave, stardustschild, I see in your profile that you’re not over 21, but for OTHER ppl reading this post, this is a good place for a go-cup drink ~$10, it’s large and 1 is enough to catch a good buzz.
+ NAPOLEON HOUSE – Muffalettas, po’ boys & other Creole staples in a circa-1914 house with a palm-filled courtyard. @gairid recs the SAZERAC (for the 21+ people reading this post, not you, stardustchild) here.
+ French Market – that’s a pretty standard suggestion so I have to include it but I didn’t think it was all that big of a deal.
+ Trashy Diva clothing boutique –
537 Royal St, they have a few locations. I got a great little black velvet jacket here!
+ 2301 and
2524
St. Charles Ave, Garden District
– AR’s childhood homes
– (Not a location really) 1233 COLISEUM ST. – where the Coliseum theatre was in the scene when Louis goes to the movies, it burned down ;A; But that neighborhood is kind of fun to walk around and just look at the nice houses on your way to Lafayette Cemetery.

+ Commander’s Palace, Garden District
– good restaurant but pricey. I had an elder flower liqueur cocktail that was pretty special there. This restaurant is a favorite of the Mayfair family.

+ 1239 First Street, Garden District – This historic property was for many years Anne Rice’s primary residence.
, Garden District
– 3711 St Charles Ave. Not really as crucial on my own list of locations but still. @cloudsinvenice had posted: “Anne Rice’s former New Orleans home is back on the market again, as per this Curbed.com article, from which I’ve selected some photos. This is the house that inspired the Mayfair witches’ haunted family home…”

+ Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, Garden District
– mentioned in canon, free but only open during daylight hours tho!
+
St. Louis Cemetery No. 1 – There are tours and I think Nicolas Cage’s very weird pyramid tomb is there, he’s paid for it, and that’s where he plans to be when he’s shuffled off this mortal coil…
+ Bourbon French Parfums –
805 Royal St. bc Louis was all about the jasmine and stuff, they have great sets of perfumes and their own concoctions.
+ DeVille Coffee House & Creperie – 2045 Magazine St, I just really like their crepe suzettes ❤
+ New Orleans Pharmacy Museum – I didn’t get to go here but it was on my list. I think it’s like $5 to go.
+ Marie Leveau’s Grave and Voodoo Shop – has cool stuff, like coffin nails!
+ Boutique du Vampyre – 709 ½ St. Anne Street, IIRC I got a cool poison ring here, they have vampiry wares.
… A few additions!
@nixsrebellionoflies added:
may i add that you can go into port of call if youre not 21 and over? they have great burgers and a very interesting aesthetic. you might have to wait a while tho to get in
^Thanks for that! I haven’t tried their burgers myself, now I have to be sure to put that on my list for my next trip 😉
@jeezycreezysuperstar added:
Some of the cemeteries are now only open to the public via tour group, just fyi
^RIGHT I forgot about that, it’s a relatively recent rule, within the last few years I think? Partly bc of the vandalism that was happening, and offerings/graffiti on some of the famous tombs like Marie Laveau’s Tomb. But do take a tour if you have the time/money/interest, bc they are informative and spoopy.
Why do you think Lestat is the best of all? And do you know any good Lestat RP’s around here? Thank you!
Why do you think Lestat is the best of all?
I don’t know that he’s the best of any group, lol. I think he’s actually the worst among many. But, I do admire a lot of things about him. Sometimes we can’t help ourselves. As it was described to me once, falling for Lestat is like falling down a flight of stairs. Sometimes it happens and it’s not what you might have planned, and it’s not all rainbows and sparkles, it can be painful at times, lol. It is what it is. I should answer this more seriously but I can’t right now.
And do you know any good Lestat RP’s around here?
That’s really hard to answer bc:
A) I don’t follow as many RPers as I used to, there were too many threads on my dash and I couldn’t read them all.
B) I try not to pick out names bc that can make people feel left out.
C) My taste in an RPer is subjective, I don’t think it’s fair for me to say who’s good or not, I could never be objective about people RPing as the characters they love, doing it for free, for fun, on their own time!
^All that said, if you’re looking for a Lestat to RP with there are a pile of them out there at any given time, but whether they’re active or welcome new RP partners is up to each one individually. Most Lestats are happy to respond to Asks tho! (My Lestat will respond to asks, but will not do back and forth threads, the mun doesn’t have the time for that.)
Here are some Lestats I’ve seen around (in no particular order):
@theoneandonlylestat, @devilsfool, @thelionscrimsonclaws, @bravenotstubborn, @lestat-delight, @thevampireforthesetimes, @xxconsumed, @gottalovelestat, @malveillants-bratprince, @lebratprincelestat, @lixncourt, @primusdux, @wolfkilling-prince, @fiendofthedamned, @from-fiction-into-legend-blog, @askthebratprince, @lestat-and-louis-de-lioncourt, @lestat-and-louis
And you might try this roundup post we send around every so often, there may be active Lestats on it.
Anyone is welcome to reblog/comment with Lestat RPer tags, I’m sure I missed some of them, sorry about that ❤
What art would you and the fandom like to see?? Of whom and when? I invite everyone to comment and all artists to paint what inspires them or straight up deliver. I’m personally looking for insiration and will credit the idea of course!
*grabby hands* yaaaasss makes more fanarts for us! We have a voracious appetite for more fanart ^________^
Here’s a VC Inktober prompt list made by @monstersinthecosmos and @superhiki, check that out for ideas, and tag your stuff #InktoberVC, I still follow that tag, why not keep it alive? Lots of good prompts in there…
^Those two lovely ppl also gave us a Twelve Days Nights of Christmas set of prompts! It tracks the tag #DarkXmasGift. We can always take those fills, any time of year ❤
Not sure how old you are, Anon, but if you are over 18… @bloodyvampchrons was gearing up a VC Anon meme (possibly kinky, but it doesn’t have to be kinky), we might get back in gear on that at some point soon.
@good-evening-kiss let me share my update on their InktoberVC piece for “Lestat’s most ridiculous sunglasses!”

@claudia-lilvampire had a prompt list of fanart she wanted to see…
I have a #Fanart request tag, some of them are filled and so they have the #Request FILLED tag, but we’ll always take another version of any fanart request made! Also, some of them are for other fandoms than VC.
Hope that helps! Anyone is welcome to reblog/comment what they’d like to see in fanart (ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧
this might be kind of a random question, but i’m curious as to what type of music you listen or what music inspires you the most in your art?
Sorry for taking so long to reply! And for the long reply…
I’ve been thinking this for a good while (how to keep my answer short and relevant, and not get judged that hard because of my taste, haha!)
- It depends how much immersion I need at the moment when creating
something.- Last few years I’ve mostly listened to Nordic pagan inspired music, as I’ve been more interested of Finnish culture’s origins, mythology and it’s ancient religion.
- Not Finnish bands nor are the subject matter related to Finnish paganism, but examples of the genre:
- I’ve recently been into music with vampire, bloodborne and dark souls vibes, too. Examples:
- Elend Silent Slumber – A God That Breeds Pestilence
- Soap&Skin – Me And The Devil
Night of the Hunt – Dance of the Blood-Drunk
- If I need more cheerful music, Capsule is the stuff!
- I create playlists for characters, settings, milieus they’re in, or for a imaginary scenes. Sometimes I spend days just for those, doing nothing else in my free time, than searching for fitting music.
- For d&d and tabletop related characters and stuff I like to use cinematic music, and/or musical like songs, which sounds rich and dramatic to me. They inspire me a lot..! Examples:
- The Devil’s Carnival – Trust Me
- Hidden Citizen – It’s A Sin
Repo! The Genetic Opera–
Zydrate Anatomy
- The only organized character playlist I currently have is Lempo’s that I made last year. But these are really thrilling (and really, really time consuming for me at least) to make. Helps me to build personality and backgrounds for the characters.
You know what song reminds me of Louis? Play with Fire by Sam Tinnesz.
ACCEPTED. I LOVE IT.

Sort of linked to the sex ed posts, I’ve encountered several posts recently where an anti demands, in various ways, that shippers MUST “educate” with their fics/art. And I, a fandom ancient, thought “Wait, what?” Where’s this constant demand for fanwork to be “educational” come from? Sorry Jan, I’m not writing smutfic to educate you about a goddamn thing, “socially responsible” or otherwise. If you’re resorting to fanfic of all things for your education on anything, YOU’VE ALREADY BEEN FAILED.
This is only one side of the phenomenon: you have antis demanding that fanon content educate people, then that adults in fandoms take care and protect children, and what does it all tell you?
These teenagers are being left alone on the internet and are projecting the parenting they’re either not receiving or are not receiving as they need on perfect strangers on the web. They legit believe that they can make the internet space they like safe by demanding that the adults in it become their surrogate parents.
Sorry, random teenager on the internet, I’m not your parent, I’m not your teacher, and nobody owes you anything. Fandom is not a safe space. Internet is not a safe space.
Every time I watch Interview With The Vampire and Antonio Banderas (I think that’s how you spell his last name) shows up, all I can think of is, “L’Oréal, Because you’re worth it.”
for you, Anon, because he’s worth it

we don’t talk about his bad wig ok we just don’t
(Same anon who asked about The Vampire Chronicles Because her sister loved it.) Dean Winchester and Lestat would have the same taste in music for sure.
(Anon refers to X] I bet they would! @lokitapendragon, any specific songs Lestat and Dean would rock out to in the car together?
*Cracks knuckles* OH HONEY.
“Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard. Lestat belts it out with a heavy French accent and Dean mocks him loudly. Dean cannot sing it to save his life.
“Highway to Hell” by AC/DC. Dean tries and fails to imitate the semi-screaming. Lestat laughs, both at the lyrics and Dean’s horrible singing.
“Wanted Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. Lestat plays this song on repeat until Sam and Louis and literally everyone else begs him to shut it off (Lestat CANONICALLY loves Bon Jovi so there.) Dean’s emotions are horribly mixed because it still reminds him of the days before he went to Hell.
“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor. Neither of them understand how cheesy everyone else finds this song, or why everybody starts laughing when they strut into the room in their shades with it as a soundtrack.
“Don’t Fear the Reaper” by Blue Oyster Cult. Lestat seduced and killed victims to this song when it was still new and playing on transistor radios. Dean remembers it from childhood when his dad used it to drown out the sounds of a hunt for toddler Sammy, who got left in the car.
“Heat of the Moment” by Asia. Dean plays this one around Lestat because for some reason it makes Sammy freak out. Louis thinks it’s the most ridiculous thing he’s ever heard. When Sam walks in he actually punches the cassette out of the stereo. Lestat asks Dean what set him off.
“Paradise City” by Guns ‘N’ Roses. If Dean’s hearing hadn’t been blown away by all the years of shooting guns with no ear protection or Lestat was mortal, they would both destroy their eardrums cranking this one.
“Rock You Like a Hurricane” by The Scorpions. I don’t know, I have mental images of them both walking into some skeazy bar (both hunting, just for different things?) while this is playing.
I could go on indefinitely so I’ll stop it right there.
^NICE! (Also I love all these songs, BTW)

^I think they’d both agree on this ;D
