I just read you Lestat/Life = OTP answer to the anon, and a thought came into my head: Do you think through the series Lestat, as you said, has so many different lovers and so much love to give because that’s just what he’s about, or do you think it has a little to with AR needing to give him new lovers as the series progressed to keep things interesting and give the reader a new way of connecting with him? (Also: my headcanon where Lestat just owns a bunch of fluffy dogs that make him happy).

[This post right here, is the Lestat/Life OTP post, if anyone wants to catch up]

BRACE YOSELF FOR A WALL OF TEXT™©®

…like GDI YOU ASKED FOR IT.

^This is like the only time they hold hands in the movie ;A; not ghey enuf

I think I can say w/ 100% certainty that AR did not set out to write the Vampire Chronicles as we know it now. When her original short story of IWTV was published in 1973, she didn’t plan for a 2014 VC that diverged from canon, sinking several ships in its wake (including Lestat/Rowan).

No, I don’t think the VC relies on Lestat’s romantic relationships specifically to keep the series interesting and keep ppl connecting with him. There are ships in canon other than whoever Lestat is throwing himself at! Armand/Daniel, for example. Marius/Pandora. Marius/Amadeo.

Of course, I’m sure some readers need the romance in VC in order to stay interested/connected to it, and that’s fine, too, but I would ask them to consider looking deeper.

TL;DR: Lestat is all about love, yes, but not necessarily in pursuit of specific ships. He’s filling a void that was made in his childhood and no one seems to be enough to fill it other than simply the pursuit of it. AR does throw in a little fanservice now and then, but I think she writes for deeper reasons, and the romance aspect – or lack thereof – is part of her exploration.

Hit the jump for more. I also address your doggie headcanon 😉

AR wrote the first short story basically to ask why her daughter died of leukemia. She wanted to interview God, the Devil, and/or Death himself. She wanted to know: Was she and/or her husband being punished for being bad Christians, or was their daughter a bad Christian? When a parent loses a child they want to know why. So she made Louis, and he answered her, “There was no reason, that girl was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I don’t serve Heaven or Hell, I was just hungry, I’m sorry, I feel like shit. Also, blame Lestat.”

Then she had to interview Lestat and find out where the evil comes from. How evil can he be, when he was forced into vampiring, totally against his will?

Everything else that followed in the series stems from that central question. Why do bad things happen? Why do people do bad things? What if the person doing the bad thing did it accidentally? Or they feel terrible about it? What if they are trying to change and be better? Why do they want to be better?

Lestat strives to be good bc he wants love. He is making up for an enormous void, his formative years spent mostly unloved and untouched, a childhood in which the only love he got was from his animals, the teachers in the school he briefly went to, the theatre troupe he ran off with, and a teensy bit from his mother. When he expressed himself, he was often shot down, and with beatings.

He knows the equations he’s been taught:

  • Be Good —> Get Loved.
  • Give Love —> Get Loved.
  • Be in Control —> Take Love.

So I think his huge heart is a hungry one, he can’t get enough, and he can’t seem to get enough from one person. I think he’s afraid of commitment. To commit to one person is to risk that person having too much control.

Having lots of relationships, well, I do think AR was doing a little fanservice when she set him up with women. That was probably a response to so many POTP begging her to set him up with a woman for a change.

But I on the other hand, I feel like alot of his dating record is unsurprising. Who can predict their future lovers? I think we can all learn from our past relationships, and that improves subsequent ones. Lestat does tend to repeat some mistakes and he does have issues with consent in relationships, but he at least is good at confessing these things and presumably working on them.

We all agree Lestat is a dog person!

He had a pack of them as a mortal, and yes, I think he’d love to own a bunch of fluffy dogs that make him happy! But dogs do not like vampires:

“I’d expected to hear from [the dog] before this time, for surely it would pick up my scent, know instinctively that I wasn’t human, and then begin to sound its natural alarm of growls and barks. Dogs had done that enough to me over the centuries, though they don’t always. Sometimes I can entrance them and  command them. But I feared the instinctive rejection and it always sent a pain through my heart.” – Lestat, Tale of the Body Thief.

That’s part of what made Mojo so special, that he seemed to override whatever natural dog instinct with love for Lestat ❤

Lestat also has expensive tastes in terms of furniture and fashion, and that’s incompatible with having a pack of dogs. People with even one dog have to dog-proof their home to some extent or risk sacrificing things to a curious doggie.

And plus he’s a wanderlust, he likes to just up and leave for long periods, and he can’t leave a pack of dogs with Louis to babysit. Plus, he knows he can’t be there for all those puppies during the day when they need to be walked and run around, so I would imagine he would have to set them up to be taken care of on someone’s huge farm or wherever so he can play with them occasionally when he needs a good dose of animal therapy ❤

Okay guys, I know everyone is tired of seeing these posts, but I really have no where else to go. The pictures above are from the house that my family was recently forced to move into. It’s in terrible condition, and would honestly probably be condemned if someone were to inspect it. This is the only possible place for my family to stay, and we desperately need money to make it livable.

To add some backstory, I live with my disabled mother–her back and legs don’t function properly and she has to use a walker/wheelchair–my 13 year old sister, and my partner. Recently, my mother was able to get a divorce from her very abusive husband (My father was physically, mentally, and sexually abusive towards my mother, as well as mentally abusive towards me.). After their split, we were forced to move from place to place–first a motel, then a trailer, then my Great Grandmother’s house. We stayed with my Great Grandma for almost 3 years before she recently decided that she didn’t want us staying with her anymore (I can only guess 2 transgenders and a queer 13 year old were too much for her Christian sensibilities.), and she kicked us out on the street.

For a week we had no place to go. We were homeless. Eventually, my Grandmother was able to salvage a house that she owns for us to stay in; and while I’m so grateful to have a place for my family to stay, daily life in this house is impossible. There are holes in all the walls, some as big as my head; the ceiling is falling down in the hall, laundry room, and bathroom; the floor is rotted in places and cracked from the shifting foundation in others; the list just goes on and on. Pictured above, in order:

-A hole in the bathroom wall. My hand for size comparison.
-Holes above me and my partner’s bed.
-The broken cooktop, which doesn’t work at all, and the scorchmarks from where it caught on fire.
-The bathroom, after we cleaned it. The shower is moldy, the paint is peeling, and the floor behind the toilet is rotted.
-One of the many cracks left from the foundation shifting apart.
-The missing bit of ceiling in the laundry room.

There are so many more problems that can’t be photographed–like the fact that the microwave is the only working appliance or the fact that the laundry room has caught on fire once since we’ve been here.

I’m really at my wits end. We’ve all tried so hard to get jobs, but it’s proved impossible with my mother’s disability and my severe GAD. We desperately need money to fix at least a few of these problems. Any sort of donation we could get would help–even if it’s just $5 to go towards some patches to cover the holes in the walls.

I have a gofund me set up already if anyone wants to go look at it and maybe donate. This is the link. Or, if it’s easier you can send us money via paypal ( trentowensby@gmail.com ). We’re just really riding on the hopes that we can find a little extra money, even if it’s just 20 more dollars.

Thank you for reading this, and I really hope some of you will donate, or at least reblog so that other people can see u.u

Long update under the cut, including how much money we’ve raised and what we’ve managed to fix. Even if you don’t take a look under the cut, please know that despite having fixed many of the problems, we’re still very far away from making this house a safe place to live. Please don’t let this post die out! Please continue to share this and donate if at all possible. We’re still at a very dire point where even another 5 dollars could make or break our situation.

Reblogging for the update and continued signal boosting, help a VC fandom member out, show some $ love! If you can’t, please reblog.

Look, I try not to do these too often for obvious reasons. I don’t know this person. I’m fortunate that I have a job, and can afford to be financially supportive when possible. Rarely do I see these kinds of posts share an update as detailed and specific as this one, and it makes it very real.

What if you were in this situation? Can you imagine the amount of strength it takes to ask strangers for financial support?

TL;DR: My point is this: All of this tumblr content you enjoy is free (aside from whatever you pay your internet provider and whatever device(s) you paid for to access it). I don’t have a ‘Donate’ tip jar on my blog. All of my content is free.

If you enjoy this stuff, please consider how little even $5 would be to pay for the years of material I (and others) have produced for your pleasure in our archives.

Take that $5 (or more! *u*) and send it to someone whose life would be significantly improved by it.

In your opinion, who was Lestat’s truest love? bc yeah we all know he loved dozens: Louis, Nikki, Akasha, Rowan Mayfair and lots more, but being as objective as possibile, who’s the one?

I assume you wanted a fluffy answer (and I answered something similar here in a fluffy way) I mean I have an OTP tag that is dominated with Lestat/Louis and I was all well and prepared to answer you as such, but when I really thought about it… and was talking about it with thelionscrimsonclaws

image

I remembered this quote:

“I don’t like myself, you know. I love myself, of course, I’m committed to myself till my dying day. But I don’t like myself.“ – Lestat de Lioncourt, Memnoch the Devil.

And I feel like I doubt whether canon!Lestat can truly trust any of all his lovers to be the ONE TRUE LOVE. I think his one true love is himself, and his mission to find the answers he needs, so really, LIFE ITSELF.

Lestat/Life = OTP!

No one is better than he is at beating himself up and then healing from it; he’s had to rely on himself and his own judgment for most of the big decisions in his life. For better or worse.

Also, I think Lestat requires a lot of different interactions with different lovers, no one individual seems able (or willing) to satisfy all these myriad needs. Everyone who loves Lestat intimately seems to accept that they will have to share him, but he has an enormous amount of love to give, there seems to be a limitless supply for all of them ❤

Spoilers ahead…

Of the ones you mentioned, each one was a unique relationship. He’s never the same exact person, he behaves differently in different pairings.

Louis: If there were a One True Love, it would be Louis. Their relationship, while volatile, even lethal at times, is something they both cleave to. Louis has learned from Lestat’s example and has become stronger over time, emotionally and physically (although he was always somewhat of a BAMF). Lestat has gained the skills of inner peace and patience from Louis’ example. Their chemistry has been the best of any pairing; they’re not two halves of one whole, but two individuals who challenge each other, who strive to surprise each other still, and in my opinion, that’s what the best relationships do.

However,

Louis tried to check out of the series w/out permission at one point, and well… that can’t be ignored.

Nicolas was Lestat’s first real long-term relationship at a time when Lestat desperately needed love and nurturing and wanted to give it back, too. Nicolas is the first person who really listened to him and they both helped each other immensely…  but I don’t think that relationship could ever really work, because deep down Nicolas and Lestat always wanted different things out of life.

Akasha used Lestat. She held him in captivity and drugged him on her blood and her mental illusions, keeping him in a disoriented state by screwing with his Deathsleep patterns. She made him believe it was love, but it was really more a form of addiction. She needed him as a pawn in her grand scheme, both bc he’s a total studmuffin and also to win over the vampires that were loyal to him. She said to him that he would be her “instrument:”

“You are my only true companion, my finest instrument…. But as the stars are my witness, you will aid me in my mission. Or you will be no more than the instrument for the commencement, as Judas was to Christ. And I shall  destroy you as Christ destroyed Judas once your usefulness is past.” – Akasha, Queen of the Damned.

So I wouldn’t call Lestat/Akasha a loving relationship, but hey, if you like it, that’s fine, too, I’m a #Ship and let ship girl!

Rowan Mayfair – to be honest, I can’t remember much of this pairing except that Lestat seemed captivated by her for no apparent reason other than that she was a strong woman and had a kind of tortured soul, which he recognized as being like his own. He promises her the Dark Gift:

“And the night will come when we’ll share the Blood. I promise you. The Dark Gift will be yours.” – Lestat, Blood Canticle

But AR diverted from canon with Prince Lestat, essentially rendering the Rowan/Lestat ship null and void. AR decided to sink that ship. I couldn’t really envision Rowan as being part of the coven, and it would be painful to see Louis shoved aside YET AGAIN to make way for YET ANOTHER fledgling.

…Fortunately David Talbot hasn’t minded being relegated to the background, and only getting brief moments of (dubcon) intimacy from Lestat. David knows he has to share.

I have never watched Only Lovers Left Alive. Should I? Is it any good? (I thought you would give a good answer to this ;) ) Sorry, not VC related.

YES! YES! SEE IT! OF COURSE LIKE C’MON

I reblog a ton of it! When it came out in 2013, OLLA was the closest to the high quality of vampire movie we as a fandom have deserved. Look at these beautiful realistic modern vampires:

Of course the vampire physiology for them is fairly different from the Ricean species in a few very specific ways which I won’t spoil for you (except to mention that I doubt VC vampires would be at all interested in blood popsicles, even tho vampire!me WOULD BE).

ALSO SEE WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS (which I hear is available for a limited time as a 30-day rental on iTunes for $0.99??) because that is the more humorous way of achieving the high quality of vampire movie we as a fandom have deserved!

reblogged your photoset and added:

I just ordered Only Lovers and What We Do on Netflix so I can do a double-feature. Which one should I watch first?

Both sets of of vampires could probably benefit from find amusement in this book:

I saw OLLA first, and then months later, WWDitS. I think that was an acceptable order, because OLLA is aesthetically more serious, but still has humor and sweetness to it. WWDitS is very touching at times, and largely more humorous. The documentary style of the latter also gives it an earnest kind of charm *u*

They both deal with the usual vampiric existential concerns and they both have different takes on vampire physiology/mythology (in at least one major way OLLA vampires are fragile in a way that WWDitS vampires are not), and the rules of vampiring in general. I don’t think either really usurps the other in these categories.

In a way, (and aside from their different rules), I think the vampires from both could exist in the same universe, so it doesn’t really matter which order you see their stories in, as they could be existing simultaneously ;]

In The Vampire Lestat, didn’t Lestat describe his eyes changing color to a much more grey-blue type color?

“My eyes are gray, but they absorb the colors blue or violet easily from surfaces around them.” – TVL

His first study of his own reflection after being turned: “and my eyes had been transformed from their usual blue to a mingling of violet and cobalt that was softly iridescent.” – TVL

[fanart by theivorywolf]

Magnus, in TVL: “…and the blue sky fixed forever in your eyes.” Magnus, TVL

So Lestat’s eyes:

  • had this effect as a mortal and looked blue to Magnus; or
  • were actually blue as a mortal and not gray-blue-violet-magical until he was turned; or
  • really were always closer to gray-blue than just gray.

This is if we trust Magnus, do we really? IIRC, it’s the only description we have of mortal!Lestat’s eye color. IDK! Lestat supposedly shares his mother’s features

and coloring

(”In fact I resemble her at least superficially.” TVL) and she is described as having blue eyes:

Lestat, in TVL about mortal!Gabrielle: “And she had very clear cobalt blue eyes fringed with thick ashen lashes.”

Khayman, in QOTD: “There wasn’t a particle of fear in her cold blue eyes…”

Lestat, in TVL about vampire!Gabrielle:
“Her eyes opened. Violet blue and glittering,”

Okay so I can’t dig up every single quote about Lestat’s eyes from other’s POVs bc c’mon I am human, so here’s a few:

Marius, in QOTD:  “The ice-blue eyes, darkening with laughter…”

Khayman, in QOTD: “… [Lestat’s] violet blue eyes.”

Jesse, in QOTD: “[Lestat’s] pale crystalline blue eyes…”

Akasha, in QOTD:  “to see the light in your blue  eyes,”

Hello! I read your answer to the sunscreen question which was very good and had a thought: Isn’t it really just the UV rays from sunlight that is harmful? Since candlelight and electric lights don’t hurt them. So theoretically if they fell asleep for the day in a room with UV filtering windows wouldn’t they be fine? A majority of windows are made to filter UV rays which is why we don’t get sunburn in a house. I haven’t read all the books yet so I’m not sure if Anne Rice ever addresses this.

It’s never said explicitly in the books what the harmful aspect of the sun’s rays really are. Here have a gif of Claudia tiptoeing around the light bc of reasons.

image

Clearly, movie!Claudia can handle the bounced light from the floor.

As you do correctly point out, Ricean vampires can handle light sources at night, so it would appear that the UV rays are what differentiate sunlight from candle/electric/etc., so the UV rays could be the issue. I think there are other elements in sunlight that may be different, but I’m not a scientist, so I wouldn’t know specifics.

Whatever the elements in sunlight that are harmful to them, I think it’s because their vampiric parasite is always at work “perfecting” them, converting their organic cells to inorganic (well, preternatural) cells, all the time. Fresh infusions of blood fuel this process. The issue with direct sunlight is that it intensifies this process to the point that their host bodies can’t handle it, it’s painful, they have to get out of the light.

It’s an intriguing thought, whether a room treated with UV windows would be enough to protect the vampires! If I were a vampire, I probably wouldn’t feel wholly safe with the windows open, as the sun crept in… and Ricean vampires will naturally find shelter if any light touches them during the Death Sleep. So I think they would find themselves cocooned in blankets, or completely concealed under the bed, when they awoke in such a room.

[Previously, re: sunscreen for vampires.]

Slight spoiler under the cut.

The vampiric spirit of Amel, invisible to the human eye, was present more at night, possibly because his very substance couldn’t handle direct sunlight for similar reasons.

I’m sorry to bother you, but I’m honestly curious about your opinion: do you think sunblock would work for vampires? (Silly question, I know, but I love reading your responses on things like this. Also, sorry if you’ve already answered a question similar to this one. ^^”)

Not a bother at all I LOVE being asked things and I do make an effort to answer bc honestly who wants to read a boring “Yes” or “No” like, no that’s boring bye. And, no, I don’t think I’ve answered this before so here we go…

Some vampires probably could do it with just sunscreen. Part of the difference is whether they can even be conscious during daylight hours. Mostly it’s due to their unique physiology. I could write an essay on this so I’m gonna keep it to 4 vampire types.

1. Meet Joe Black Deacon Frost, vampire from Blade, slathered up in sunscreen:

Well, Blade calls it sunblock, but same thing. It’s working for Frost in this scene (and I think he’s put it in his hair to cover his scalp, too, hence the greasiness), but as he says to Blade, “It’s a start, right? The goal, of course, is to be like you. Daywalker.” (Blade himself is a hybrid vampire so he can go out in the sunlight.) The rest of Frost’s skin is covered up with clothing which may also be treated in some way to protect him but his eyes aren’t protected, they should be affected but maybe it’s only light-sensitivity of the skin in that type of vampire.

For more, hit the jump.

2. This is Adam from Only Lovers Left Alive, getting a burn from sunlight:

Adam and Deacon share the ability to be awake during daylight hours. So it’s possible that Adam could wear sunscreen for protection, but given such a harsh physical reaction to such a small amount of exposure, I wouldn’t think any strength or amount of sunscreen would be strong enough for him, even if he was able to cover every last bit of skin, which would be a real challenge.

3. Louis de Pointe du Lac from movie!IWTV can’t handle the sunlight, but he’s fully conscious, reaching up to try protect himself.

Sunscreen might work for movie!Louis, too, but he would have the same issue as Adam, could he cover enough skin to make it work? I doubt it.

4. Louis and Claudia from book!IWTV fall into the Death Sleep during the day. They cannot be conscious during daylight hours, their physiology prevents it. So sunscreen, or other protective gear, would not work for them.

[fanart by Mangademon333]

The Death Sleep is basically the unconscious state that the Ricean vampires succumb to when their bodies sense the sun rising, and they only break out of it when the sun sets again or they’re under attack. There’s also fanon that they can wake from the Death Sleep during the day when under extreme emotional distress. Even defending themselves in their sleep, they’re not really conscious and only realize what happened when they wake normally. Lestat says in TVL:

And those mortals who did find us during the daylight hours, unless they exposed us to the sun at once, were doomed. For example, outside Palermo [Gabrielle] had slept in a cellar far below an abandoned house, and when she had awakened, her eyes and face were burning as if they had been scalded, and she had in her right hand a mortal, quite dead, who had apparently attempted to disturb her rest.

“He was strangled,” she said, “and my hand was still locked on his throat. And my face had been burned by the little light that leaked down from the opened door.”

Hi! Love your blog more than ever! What are your thoughts on Armand/Louis? Or specifically Louis’ feelings for Armand? Louis always seems to gravitate towards A whenever he is at loose ends with Lestat. If I am doing the math correctly, they have spent more time as companions than L/L. For some reason, though I love L/L, I am fascinated by A/L. Thanks again for your awesomeness in the VC fandom. <3

Thanks, dearie! What do you love about it specifically, hmmm? Simply my awesomeness in the VC fandom? You don’t need to answer that, my awesome is unquestionable hehehe…

Armand/Louis: To ship or not to ship?

image

[by garama bc apparently I’m having a GARAMA APPRECIATION DAY]

I have alot of Armand/Louis feels. The way they view each other seems built on their first impressions of eachother:

  • Louis saw Armand as the teacher/mentor (and lover??) Lestat could not have been. Armand definitely used some mental persuasion to draw Louis closer, but it seems the attraction was mutual, mostly natural chemistry.
  • Armand saw Louis as someone who could help him see the world anew, through younger eyes, and someone who was very much in tune with their emotions. Armand had closed off alot of those feelings, and was not very connected to any of the vampires in the Theatre des Vampires. Also he wanted Louis as a lover, but don’t we all? Also, Armand had advised Lestat in TVL that your fledglings will never make perfect companions, what you need is someone else’s fledgling. AND, it’s possible that Armand was even more attracted to Louis after reading his mind and knowing he was Lestat’s, whom Armand had a major unrequited crush on.

So they both sort of filled a void for the other, but couldn’t be together initially, as Louis was devoted to Claudia. Armand’s responsibility for her removal is subject to interpretation, whether it was his order or not, and other things that happened to her, but it seems to me that Armand had intended for Claudia to leave with Madeleine. He admitted to forcing Louis to make Madeleine for this purpose.

After all that, you would think Louis would want nothing to do with Armand, but he chose to spend some 100 yrs with Armand before passive-aggressively ignoring him until he left Louis, disgusted and on the verge of suicide, Louis not being a good boyfriend. (vampiredevelopment!)

Your math sounds about right, but a relationship’s quality is not based on the amount of time it lasts. Louis was probably much happier when he was with Lestat and Claudia for some 65 years. Of the 100 yrs he spent with Armand, much of it seems like Louis was going through the motions, letting Armand have him as a companion in various ways, but not really engaged fully in the relationship.

Lestat does often have to go off on his own adventures and leave Louis alone. There’s a kind of mutual respect between Lestat, Armand, and Louis now, it seems all of their past transgressions to each other are mostly water under the bridge.

TL;DR: Louis does still gravitate to Armand, maybe not as the mentor/teacher he saw him as before, but more as an ex-boyfriend that he is on good terms with, someone he cares about, and who cares about him. Extended family.

Hi^^ I just finished Merrick and I have a question only you can answer, my dear! The character reactions at the end had me a bit confused, namely Louis and Lestat’s reaction to Merrick’s little love spell. Does Louis just not care that she put a “fix” on him or does he still not believe her? Is that spell still there? And why does Lestat react so nonchalantly to it, as if it was funny rather than a bad thing? Shouldn’t he be a bit more…I dunno, jealous and pissed? I guess? Help!

A question only I can answer?! Pffffft, that would be true only if I was Anne Rice herself. Although really she ought to deputize me as one of her fandom spokespeople, my VC obsession has made me such a great resource for the fandom!

image

[art by Thomas Blackshear, very Gustav Klimt, oui?]

Spoilers under the cut.

1. Does Louis just not care that she put a “fix” on him or does he still not believe her?

In his letter, Louis says that she admitted to bewitching him:

“No talk from Merrick of her potent spells can excuse my actions, though in fact, she does indeed claim to have brought me to her with magic I cannot understand. What I understand is that I love her…” – Louis de Pointe du Lac, Merrick

I think that as he writes this, he feels love for her, but he knows it can’t be real love. He must feel tricked at some level, why else commit suicide right after making a loved one into a vampire? If he really loved her, he would want to stay alive and be with her. I think he’s chosen death because he knows what he did was wrong and rather than just adding another vampire to the world, he’s taking himself out, so there’s no change in the number of vampires ;A;

2. Is that spell still there?

I think Louis is still bewitched as he writes his letter, but it’s probably worn off to some extent in the process of his resuscitation. It has definitely worn off by the time he is himself again, but I think at that point he has to consider Merrick with some natural love, because she is his fledgling and there will always be a bond there. The Dark Gift is probably the most intimate experience a vampire can give/receive.

3. And why does Lestat react so nonchalantly to it, as if it was funny rather than a bad thing? Shouldn’t he be a bit more…I dunno, jealous and pissed?

Lestat has just woken up again, cut him some slack! He’s disoriented! “With an awkward step, as though his body, so long unused, revolted against him, he made his way closer to Merrick,”

Lestat also often goes into a kind of emotional and physical paralysis when such devastating things happen. It happened when he was mortal, too. The humor that follows is also a defense mechanism against feeling the pain of the situation.

He knows that there will be an opportunity much later to get jealous and pissed, but in the immediate aftermath his thoughts are narrowed to the emergency and how to save Louis ;A;

I’m not sure why he insists on sharing his blood with Merrick, though. That seemed to condone her trickery too far for my tastes, but I suppose he did it because he saw that Louis still loved her. Making Merrick more of an equal was a gift to Louis.

Or, perhaps he wanted to drink from her to experience her side of the story, without any of her witchery, and sharing blood with her was an excuse to do that.
