Oh nonononononono, I watched Interview with the vampire for the first time since I was 14 and I feel myself slipping back into Anne Rice hell. What now? Has anything happened to Lestat since I left?
Yes, I obvs enjoy our faction of the VC fandom here too! We’re all excited/ nervous/other… some ppl have nope’d out entirely, it’s a big mix *hugs*
Casting Claudia will probably not be an issue if they start with TVL, bc Claudia’s only in IWTV, and just mentioned in later books. It seems like AR really loves movie!IWTV, so I doubt she would redo that book.
But… let’s cast an actress as Lestat’s little sister for TVL, the 8th de Lioncourt child, and then have her play Claudia, too! The resemblance would be so heartbreaking! ;A;
For funsies tho, I must inform you… awhile back, @hyperbeeb suggested Mia Talerico [X], who just turned 9 on 9/17, and I have to agree!
[^She’s the kid from the “confused baby” meme!]
Mia’s had a long career already (IMDB says she was eleven months old when she started filming Good Luck Charlie, so that’s 7 yrs of acting, being directed, being comfortable in front of the cameras, etc.). I Perusing through gifs of her (thank u @child-actor-gifs!), I think she’s got what it takes. Physically, who can deny that she’s super cute, w/ doll-like features as described in the books, fiercely intelligent, adorable smile, and naturally blonde already (so we can save a few $$ on hair dye!).
^Here she is a little older. She almost looks like she plotting here… Look what she’s doing with her hands, conscious acting choice? I think so. Imagine she’s crushing a (breakable prop) porcelain doll’s face into shards instead! Yissss…
^Perfect disingenuous apology, very Claudia.
^”I want more…” hugs? Sure you do.
^So yeah let’s hurl her at AR!
(ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧
I think we could also find a great child actress on Insta or YT, some fresh kid whose experience comes from making short vids under adult supervision so they are already accustomed to taking some direction bc kids are notoriously difficult to direct. I love Katie Ryan on Insta (@katieryan430) … It’s frickin’ BATS.
IIRC, there was alot of difficulty finding a 5 yo talented enough to play Claudia in movie!IWTV. Kirsten Dunst was the first they auditioned of one hundred actresses, varying in amount of experience, from around ages 5-12. The 5 yr olds struggled with the intensity that the part required… so I wouldn’t mind if they aged her up to 10 or 11. If they cast a 5 yo who looks perfect but can’t act like the frustrated adult inside, it won’t really work.
If Claudia’s in the new adaptations at all, I think it will be as a ghost (in later books, she sort of haunts the Rue Royale, Louis, and Lestat), which could also be animated and voice acted by an adult.
Not a strange question at all! It does affect me, in a positive way 😀
Kids often make me think about Claudia, both for VC casting ideas and also what it would be like to be an adult trapped in that little body (5 yr olds really are small!). I’ve never seen a *~perfect~* kid to play her, though. I think Kirsten Dunst set the bar very high.
Speaking of VC casting – I am always on the lookout for that. There’s a homeless guy I pass by on a regular basis who might be great for Lestat’s dad during the IWTV era. I’d love to share a pic but I feel like it would be rude to take one 😛
My headcanon for the VC characters is often in the back of my mind, and something might spark an idea about one or more of them, useful for fanfic ideas… Here in NYC I saw some older ladies, tourists, petting some huge police horses with policemen in the saddles, looking down and making small talk back at the ladies, and I had a very clear vision of Lestat seeing that as a form of fellatio (the men were straddling these massive animals and the women were flirting with them, practically fondling the horse’s necks and faces!) and finding it pretty hilarious, having to explain why he was laughing to Louis… so I wrote it up: 9TH AVE, BETWEEN 57TH & 58TH ST.
I’ll often slip in quotes from the books in emails or conversation partly bc they sound good but also it’s sort of a feeler to fish out other VC fans. Sometimes it works, too!
It works on bad days, too, I’ll just remind myself that Lestat doesn’t take this kind of crap from anyone, he just dusts himself off and kicks the asses that needed kicking!
^This is not how you win someone over to your opinion.

Since this is our last exchange, I’ll answer for the sake of showing my followers that I will not be bullied by an anonymous person:
As previously stated twice now: I did not read the book, I saw the 2 film adaptations. Based on my interpretation of them AND what readers of the book have told me privately, I concluded that Eli can be referred to with female pronouns. I’ve repeatedly stated that that’s just my opinion and I have NEVER tried to force it on anyone else.
I added to the original post that Eli’s gender is ambiguous, which is a compromise, even though I disagreed with you.
An anonymous person cannot convince me of a “fact” when even the author of the original book has not convinced 100% of their readers of said “fact.” The author could tell me to refer to Eli with male pronouns and I might still
politely
refuse. Why should the author care what one reader thinks? Anne Rice has had to deal with FAR worse from her readers.
I linked to David Lowery, at least one example of another person who also found it ambiguous, so unfollow me and inform that blogger, and many others, of your truth.
The last one has transparent background so you can meme together with Lestat. Now that there’s the original screen cap I see how I didn’t even manage to catch the original expression goddammit
But I’m lazy so I’m not going to fix it, forgive me , THankyou & good night!
Can we just have this animated movie already? These look like stills from an animated movie and wE NEEDS IT
There’s no shame in asking for a refresher on a canon thing ;] While I can’t give you the full history (check out the Vampire Companion for that), in brief:
Night Island was built by the vampire Armand as a gift to his mortal lover Daniel Molloy, to share w/ Daniel, and it is vividly described in Queen of the Damned. I gather that it is in fact a complex built on a man-made island (which does not exist IRL sorries) off the shore of Miami, Florida, USA. Daniel describes it as such:
“And Armand, he was probably roaming the dimly lighted rooms of the villa, steps away from the tourists and the shoppers, yet utterly cut off by steel doors and white walls – a sprawling palace of floor-length windows and broad balconies, perched over white sand. Solitary, yet near to the endless commotion, its vast living room facing the twinkling lights of the Miami shore.”
“… the Night Island, Armand’s own personal creation with its five dazzling glass stories of theaters, restaurants, and shops.”
[^This will be yer face if you visit there]
It’s meant to be a kind of universe of funtimes, where mortals can enjoy all kinds of entertainment, so it’s a big source of revenue for Armand, but more importantly, it’s where the coven gather and bond over a short period of time after a really harrowing shared adventure.
