I think vampires would be curious about it, even if it existed during their lifetime (definitely for Daniel), there are new flavors, shapes and sizes of gum these days!
As far as actually enjoying gum, idk, I’m of two minds with that. On the one hand, I like the idea of Lestat doing it just to irritate ppl, blowing big bubbles, and popping them while someone is trying to talk *cough* Armand *cough* I’m sure he would find all the packaging/tins and
The flavored makeup would probably not taste good to them like it does for us since those flavors are meant to simulate actual food; cherry chapstick – which I personally love bc it gives you tint and a pleasant smell/taste – would probably taste like a smear of motor oil to a Ricean vampire.
Soooo… I feel like gum, also meant to taste like food to mortals, could taste inedible to them. Altho even if it tasted bad, I think Lestat would still chew it just to be annoying #Actual 7 yr old.
…and yet, I, personally, wouldn’t want them rushing it out just bc they CAN, like with movie!Queen of the Damned. I mean, hey, I don’t know the backstory on that production, so maybe they DID put a lot of thought and effort into that movie… and let’s not forget that ppl DID enjoy that movie and even now they find it nostalgic, ppl liked it as an adaptation or as a standalone (if they hadn’t read the books, they probably weren’t judging it for being non-compliant w/ canon), for whatever reason (Aaliyah! Was actually great, IMO!). So I’m not the arbiter of taste, and neither is any one fan. I’m glad some ppl enjoyed it bc hey, maybe whatever success that movie had is part of why we may get the VCTV series! And whatever failure it had, that can be learned from (like, maybe, don’t rewrite canon to the point of switching around makers for whatever reason, like making Marius Lestat’s maker? BC that just screws up so many connections, among other issues?).
If the VCTV series happens at all, it’s inevitably going to disappoint some fans no matter what it does or doesn’t accomplish, no matter how canon-compliant* it is or isn’t. There is NO PLEASING EVERYONE! Our headcanons DO vary. Everyone projects their own ideals of beauty and everything else onto these stories, the act of reading a story involves adding your own experience, supplying it with your own imagination.
(*Altho, AR has said that she DOES want to make it as canon-compliant as possible, and hopefully that means she won’t try to shoehorn in the later ALIEMS into the story before they contaminate it come in much later in the series.)
I think it’s great when we can agree on some things, like I would say we all agree that Lestat’s red velvet cloak was RED in color, but then we could debate DARK RED or BRIGHT RED until we are blue in the face so like… even little details like that can be a point of disagreement *shrugs*
ALL THAT SAID, it would be WONDERFUL if this adaptation gets like a B+ with the majority of the fandom, that’s how low I’m setting the bar lol.
I do answer asks directed to Lestat under #Lestat muse! His responses are just a touch edgier than mine, a little wordier bc I’d imagine he likes flexing his vocabulary, he’s a Writer, an Actor, an ARTIST. I imagine that he’d love blogging, getting questions from fans and that whenever he sits down to do it, he’s in a good mood, recently fed and warm and wanting to be generous with his affection and his time. So it’s somewhat //ooc bc the ‘real’ Lestat would probably be much sharper, have a shorter fuse, than the way I treat him.
I’m super picky about what I reblog bc I try to keep posts to a 10/day limit, but I do have a #Lestat likes this tag, and #Lestats closet, for stuff I think he’d like/have. It’s a very high compliment that you feel like this blog is actually run by him <333 I’ve always been drawn to his sense of humor, some of his fashion sense aligns with mine, and his overall desire to give/receive affection is something I can relate to, even if we both fail at it sometimes. He’s an enormous failure in many ways but he keeps trying.
I am aware, bc I’ve read all of canon (except, not yet finished PLROA I’M SO SORRY but it will happen!), that he is also extremely problematic and I choose not to discuss my opinions about that publicly, but it is something I do grapple with privately. Reconciling some of his worst crimes against others with the loving, sassy, charming being he can be and wants to be most of the time, that’s a challenge. I choose to focus on the positive aspects of this fictional character in public.
teacher: write a 5 page essay analyzing this
me: it’s not that deep 🏊🏼
I swear to god they’re so dramatic. Even in art history they read into what an apple or fly means like BICH maybe they’re just in the painting chilling. Y DOES IT NEED A MEANING
Yo, makes me laugh that you say this. Because you’re actually right
At the time artists started painting still life (early renaissance), painters didn’t bother with meanings at all. It was a technical exercise. Seeing how good their techniques were
But painting is expensive as fuck and you gotta pay for pigments and shit, so you had to be able to sell your shitty still life, to the people who pay for your pigments and shit. But they didn’t want still life paintings, because it was… just food….. They wanted Jesus and bible scenes and such. Not apples and shit. Because rich people loved religion. And were pretentious as fuck. Why have an apple painting at home when you can have men freaking out over zombie Jesus
So artists were like ok, see, you don’t get it. The apple refers to the original sin, and all the fruits represent your wealth and such. But the skull’s there to remind you that your wealth doesn’t matter, you’ll die someday anyway
Because that was a popular thing at the time, being rich but having symbolic stuff that remind you that you’ll die someday despite being rich. Rich people were weird. And pretentious
So painters BULLSHITTED all that symbolic stuff around the things they put in their still life paintings to make the boring painting exercises appealing to the gullible (and pretentious) rich people that commissioned them. And rich people gobbled it aaaalllllll up
And that’s how we still have still life paintings from most famous renaissance artists today and that they’re in such good condition, because still life paintings became THE shit amongst rich people and they bought them and kept them at home. Instead of remaining stuck in a dusty, shitty painting workshop, to be forgotten beneath tons of other stuff and rot
And there was this whole lexicon and symbolism dictionary created around still life paintings at the time, like each object was meant to represent something and there began to be conventions and stuff
But they only ever were technical painting exercises
