Quick question. What time should I watch Interview With The Vampire to have Lestat say “Now Look with your vampire eyes.”?

(Got both your asks, Anon, just answering once)

In

movie!Interview With Vampire, Lestat says that line at 14 min, 22 seconds into the movie, on the NTSC (US) version. I don’t know when that would be for PAL. Anyone out there with a PAL copy can reblog/comment what it would be for that version.

So basically, start the movie at 11:45 pm New Year’s Eve your time, to begin 2018 w/ Louis’ freshly minted vampire eyes *u*

^Louis is, in fact, capable of smiling, here’s a rare sliver of a smile ❤

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Hello, I was wondering if you know of any fanart that might have been done on Louis’ brother. I know he wasn’t a major character but I would really love to be able to visualize him. Also, I know there is a fanart somewhere of Armand ranting that Marius is not Lestat’s sire. So would he also rant that Lestat is not Daniel’s sire? Since I know people tend to confuse the movies Queen of the Damned and Interview with a Vampire since they state completely different sires from the books.

Ok well… hmmm…. YOU CHALLENGE MY MEMORY AND COLLECTION and I am in a MOOD TO MEET SUCH. Let’s see what we can do….

1) Paul de Pointe du Lac

The one fanart that is specifically Paul is this one:

image

X by @baladokentang

^I love this fanart, he’s got his brother’s raven hair and green eyes <3, but Paul is described in canon as “He had the smoothest skin and the largest blue eyes. He was robust, not thin as I am now and was then… but his eyes… it was as if when I looked into his eyes I was standing alone on the edge of the world… on a windswept ocean beach. ” (IWTV) Not sure whether it’s canon or fanon but Paul was supposedly blond. He was 15 when he died.

I have a few other things collected in my #Paul de Pointe du Lac tag, like this portrait I think is pretty canon compliant:

2) Sire drama and fanart

  • Also, I know there is a fanart somewhere of Armand ranting that Marius is not Lestat’s sire.

Hmmm that is a very tough one, I know I’ve seen a fanart or two like that over the years, I’ll try and dig around in my personal archives for that. I do think Armand would take more issue at that than the idea that Lestat might have been Daniel’s maker.

I mean, and I shouldn’t go here but I will, bc I think this is one of the reasons I can’t watch movie!QOTD w/o someone with me, cracking jokes at it…

Marius gets unfairly mashed together with Magnus in movie!QOTD, essentially, bc he turns Lestat w/o consent. Therefore, Marius takes on the burden of having raped Lestat into being a vampire and there is no explicit reconciliation or apology for that crime whatsoever, but he and Lestat are kicking it together in Modern Times, with Lestat seemingly bitter at him and Marius seemingly smug back? It’s ooc and uncomfortable. I think Armand would be more annoyed at Marius taking on Magnus’ actions than he would be pissed at Lestat getting to claim Marius as his own sire, since QOTD!Lestat doesn’t seem all that thrilled with that pedigree.

BUT ANYWAY if anyone out there has fanart in which Armand is ranting about Marius not being Lestat’s sire, plz send it to me, or reblog and tag me!

I have one of Lestat and Armand fighting over Marius, and @garama‘s Antonio!Armand w/ QotD!Marius which is not quiiiite what you’re asking for but might like anyway… that I’ll rebagel after this…

  • So would [Armand] also rant that Lestat is not Daniel’s sire? Since I know people tend to confuse the movies Queen of the Damned and Interview with a Vampire since they state completely different sires from the books.

Ppl may blend together certain things, but I think anyone who’s seen the movies AND read the books takes the books as more true to canon, and the movies as adaptations, which is what they are. But if ppl only see movie!QOTD, I can’t really fault them for taking that info as their own canon, if they like it.

In MY opinion, since you’re asking: Armand will rant about it @ Daniel in private, but Armsy doesn’t tend to rant about anything he’s personally invested in when he’s in Lestat’s presence, preferring to keep a calm, collected, and unflappable profile as much as possible. Lestat knows this and loves to pester Armsy at any opportunity. There’s A LOT of joking around in the coven about those movies and how Daniel narrowly escaped having Lestat as his fictional maker…

Lestat: “You’d have liked that, wouldn’t you?” *makes a kissy face @ Dan*

Daniel: “Not saying I’d have liked it exactly, but it might’ve sped things up a little…”

Armand: “Are you saying I took too long, Daniel? I had my reasons…”

Lestat: “Dude I see someone I love, I turn them THAT NIGHT,” *snaps his fingers* “If I can possibly manage it, or the very next night, or at least that weekend, gotta strike when the iron is HOT!”

Armand: “Or else they might come to their senses and run as far away as they can get from you?”

Lestat: “HEY!”

Daniel: “I did run from you, Armand…”

Armand: “HEY!!”

Marius and Louis just sit back and watch all this, wishing that they had popcorn they could eat.

HOW DO I DEAL WITH PRINCE LESTAT SPOILERS?! SPECIFICALLY WHAT HAPPENS TO MAHARET? OR SOMEONE WHO IS RELATED TO LESTAT??? (I kinda asked for it. I’m a dumb butt.)

How do you DEAL with Prince Lestat spoilers?? The fact that you’ve been spoiled? Or want to be spoiled? UM??

“There are naive questions, tedious questions, ill-phrased questions, questions put after inadequate self-criticism. But every question is a cry to understand the world. There is no such thing as a dumb question.” ― Carl Sagan,

A) My tag for these spoilers is #princelestatspoiler.

B) What happens to Maharet is under the cut.

How do you deal with What happens to Maharet? UM…

  • You can choose not to accept it as canon!
  • Maybe we should set up a support group for ppl dealing with this and other atrocities happenings in PL+

…BTW ”PL+” is Prince Lestat PLUS any book that follows it bc collectively, I JUST DO NOT KNOW ok? I cherry-pick what I want from them currently but accepting them in their entirety is a HARD PILL(S) TO SWALLOW. And I think it’s all just gonna get harder to swallow, not easier *shakes fist at AR* WHY U DO DIS??

C) Someone who is related to Lestat – He has A LOT of relatives? Which do you mean? But I can make a guess, under the cut.

I HOPE YOU FEEL HELPED?? *hugs*

*~HERE BE SPOILERS~*

A) A lot of exceedingly wackadoodle shit happens and we get some new characters, some which are, to me, canon fodder, so AR has someone to murdalize later.

B) Maharet gets murdalized. Sorry ;A;

C) Lestat gets cloned. Technically. He gets a son, Viktor. Who LOOKS JUST LIKE HIM so like, Lestat 2.0? Diet Lestat? Basically? Maybe AR intends him to become the frontrunner at some point? But he’s basically there for the YA audience, IMO. He’s our Edward Cullen, light on the angst tho *ragged sigh*

Anne Rice, The Vampire Lestat

Do you think any members of the VC Cast have any irrational fears (canon or non canon)? If so, what do you think they are?

Oooh that’s a good question! Idk if phobias count as “irrational,” per se, bc you can have an irrational fear of anything, but phobias at least have categories that are common? Right?

These stories are open enough that you could make an argument for more than one irrational fear or phobia for each character, but for the sake of brevity I’m going to focus on one or a few for each, and keep my support brief.

(TBH I started drafting this and just one character got really lengthy, so I’ll do a series of them.)

1) Louis

A) Claustrophobia – The fear of small spaces like elevators, small rooms and other enclosed spaces.

Canonically, the first one that comes to mind is Louis’ claustrophobia. Idk if Brad was aware of that character trait, but I see it in his face when Lestat closes him up for his first night in a coffin. He has his hand on the lid at first, and then lets it go kind of reluctantly I don’t have that giffed out so you’ll have to believe me on that.

image

All my life I’d feared closed places. Born and bred in French houses with lofty ceilings and floorlength windows, I had a dread of being enclosed. I felt uncomfortable even in the confessional in church. It was a normal enough fear. And now I realized as I protested to Lestat, I did not actually feel this anymore. I was simply remembering it. Hanging on to it from habit, from a deficiency of ability to recognize my present and exhilarating freedom.” – Louis, IWTV

image

^And then post-trial at the Theatre des Vampires, he gets nailed into a coffin and walled up, UPSIDE-DOWN. It’s a bad time. It’s a pretty bad punishment on its own, probably a standard one for the TdV, but I can’t help but think they had some idea that this was one of Louis’ fears specifically that they read in his thoughts and capitalized on.

B) Atychiphobia – fear of failure, specifically re: a fear of confrontation/decisions, because it so often ends in the death or pain of those he loves, particularly Paul and Claudia.

There is a more elaborate meta post out there about this, and I can’t find it, anyone can reblog this and add the link. @wicked-felina and I were discussing Louis and his fear of confrontation/decisions last night, here’s what we came up with:

  • Louis tends to refuse to engage, except when he physically has to fight people to save Lestat in TVL ❤
  • Re: Paul, imagine you having a fight with a family member and mocking them (being confrontational) and then they die right in the middle of your argument, and you’re blamed for it, and you blame yourself for it ;A;
  • Claudia wanted him to choose between her and Lestat, “Now’s time to end it, Louis.” And Lestat ends up dead ;A;
  • And he has to stand by and watch Lestat (debatable, but I consider Lestat to be his lover at the time) be hurt, lay there suffering as he appears to die on the carpet, then Louis has to help Claudia finish him off.

“The numbness which had protected me since the carriage left the Rue Royale threatened to lift and leave me flayed suddenly, staring, thinking: This is Lestat. This is all of transformation and mystery, dead, gone into eternal darkness.”

^This suggests to me, plus the pull he felt to go down with Lestat, that he absolutely cared for Lestat, more than just for what secrets he took with him in death ;A;

  • Armand wanted him to choose between him and Claudia for him, and Claudia ends up dead ;A;

People really put Louis in terrible situations and he’s frozen with indecision. Anne Rice has compared him to Hamlet, there’s so much weight on whatever he chooses.

“ …`That passivity in me has been the core of it all, the real evil. That weakness, that refusal to compromise a fractured and stupid morality, that awful pride! For that, I let myself become the thing I am, when I knew it was wrong. For that, I let Claudia become the vampire she became, when I knew it was wrong. For that, I stood by and let her kill Lestat, when I knew that was wrong, the very thing that was her undoing. I lifted not a finger to prevent it. And Madeleine, Madeleine, I let her come to that, when I should never have made her a creature like ourselves. I knew that was wrong! Well, I tell you I am no longer that passive, weak creature that has spun evil from evil till the web is vast and thick while I remain its stultified victim. It’s over! I know now what I must do. And I warn you, for whatever mercy you’ve shown me in digging me out of that grave tonight where I would have died: Do not seek your cell in the Theatre des Vampires again. Do not go near it.’ ” – Louis, IWTV

C) Autophobia – fear of one’s self – Not sure if this is the right type of fear, but I would add that Louis’ fear of his own vampiric nature in IWTV was a thing, too.

I never revealed to him half my powers, and with reason, because he shrank in guilt and self-loathing from using even half of his own. – Lestat, TVL

^It has to do with wanting to remain human, and exerting his vampiry gifts was a glaring reminder that he’s not; having grown up a Christian, he felt that being a vampire was monstrous and evil. This was something he struggled with more during IWTV-era than later, as we see in much later canon he uses his powers without explicit canon complaints about it.

Louis has grown in canon, and he doesn’t seem to have these fears any longer, but we seldom know what’s going on with him as we don’t revisit his POV until the most recent books, and he doesn’t mention these things specifically. There’s probably still traces of them, though.

How can you have lived for so long and still not get it?

Important. Truths.

aivelin:

I’m back here to recommend another movie but this one is way more personal to me. Its Only lovers left alive by Jim Jarmusch.

You know, movies nowadays are more close to people when it comes to representation. You can see all kinds of characters, like them and dislike. Somehow I’ve never came across any movie that shows my type of characters and/or my way of living. However Only lovers left alive did it in a second.

What about this movie that made it so personal to me? Characters, both of the main characters are related to me, I have a good part of Adam and Eve in my mind. The way of living, hobbies, free time spending, relationships, talking topics, things they admire… This movie is a slice of life, full of calm,

contemplative look at everythng going around. It’s visually pleasing, everything about it is full of meditation, inner connection. Characters are looking at life like they are in a museum. They share they emotions about every piece of art, is it new music or nature wonders, old buildings or beautiful people… they are very natural to themselves as if nobody is looking.

I loved a philosophy fight between Adam’s dissapointment in life and Eve’s calm admiration of it. I loved that no matter how many death they had around themselves, they are ready to see beauty of life.

Another thing about this movie that makes it a visual art to me is its cast. I’m a big fan Tilda Swinton and she is gorgeous in this movie. I also watched it because of Tom Hiddleston, and if you liked him in other roles, you will be pleased too. These two actors made a perfect image to me, I find androgyny very beautiful, it’s a blessing to my eyes and this movie delivered it exactly how I needed.

I didn’t spoil you anything, so I hope it will be interesting to you. The movie is a bit specific: very calm, no plot, no action, no drama or romance… but it’s a beautiful piece of still life, so close to me that I could not help but mention it.

“Life is about surviving things, appreciating nature, nurturing kindness and friendship… and dancing.” [X]
