Chris Evans I see more as Daniel Molloy, don’t you think? Yeah, he has a Roman enough face/build for a young Marius but Marius is not likely to get a movie before Lestat does.
But hey, I wouldn’t stand in the way of Evans doing a screen test as Lestat *u* He is almost too muscular for my taste, but I’ll deal with it, somehow, lol.
As usual, I gotta say that it’s not JUST about appearance, so I’m open to suggestions, and it would need to be someone who can make the transition between mortal and vampire really well.
THAT SAID: I would be looking for someone close to their 20’s, or looks like it, with luscious dark hair, A+ artist brooding skills, a smile that can melt your heart, and an almost feral edge, this is not your boy-next-door, but someone w/ razor sharp wit ever at the ready to stab you with, but he keeps it back as much as he can. Leashed cruelty.
Major plus if they can play violin, too, bc I know ppl are going to be watching their damn fingering and will criticize them up and down, even if they get training with it, bc violinning is such a huge part of that character.
Some ideas (in no particular order), and there are more in my #Nicolas de Lenfent tag, I’m just picking some favorites here:
Thank you for this comment, bc I did some real percolating on it and I am happy to answer you.
I tagged it that way bc often I’ll see posts on my dash where someone has used a gif from a source, which hasn’t been tagged, and I’ll see tags or comments like, “Who is this hot guy?!” “Where is this from?!” which is so sad, bc they might really want to know and get into that fandom! So in tagging it #Supernatural, it’s actually free advertising BACK to Supernatural; someone might see my post on their dash, and think, “What is this from? Oh, it’s tagged Supernatural. Maybe I should check that show out, this guy looks like he could be a great actor…” And then you might gain awesome fresh blood in your fandom, who could turn out to be your new best friend (or even something more!, ppl meet the love of their life through fandom, I kinda hope to do so, too) ^_____^
I also enjoy the fact that other fandoms bleed into each other sometimes, bc fandom is an umbrella concept over so many of them (if not all). There are even crossover fanworks (fic, memes, etc.) between fandoms and different works of media, often enriching the experience of both. Especially when you have someone who can make really great meta-analysis comparing some aspect of one fandom to another, they might even make you ship smtg you never thought you’d ship.
As an example: One of our fandom ppl has moved onto the MCU!Avengers, but specifically the Steve Rogers/Tony Stark ship, and they convinced me that that ship has alot of similarity with Louis/Lestat. And now I can’t unsee it, and you could all lose me to Stony someday.
^Lestat/Louis meet Tony Stark/Steve Rogers, hilarity ensues. This is a fanwork that crossovers two different fandoms, and so much is conveyed without any dialogue at all, it’s all in the facial expressions and body positions and it gives me such feels whenever I look at it. Drawn by @americancaptaincomic
All that said, I’m sure I’m not the only one who has posted that gif with the #Supernatural tag. If you want a pure SPN tag, you can run your own blog and keep it as pure and clean as you like! And I don’t say that w/ any intended sassy attitude, it’s just a fact, and even though I wanted to keep my blog purely VC, I have found that embracing other fandoms is more inclusive and really does enrich the experience.
And I really do want to share more about myself, bc I am not, unfortunately, Tom Cruise from 1994. If I could be, I might be. But I very much am not. Idk tho, would I want to be a dude? Hmmmm… Better cancel that appointment with Raglan James…
1. I went to NOLA recently and my best friend graciously snapped this pic of me and my new boyfriend
Currently, I smile more for pics… I went through a phase where I thought I was as fat as Teddy here, I was definitely bigger but not that big… and that was an embarrassing time, I lost 30 lbs when I first moved to NY from
joining weight watchers and all the walking.
HIT THE JUMP FOR THE REST, bc images make it a LONG POST.
2. ROLLERBLADING
Yes, as a child of the early 90′s, I have always been into rollerblading when the weather’s appropriate for it. The challenge is in finding a place to do it, which is tough, bc there are little kids and dogs to be run over EVERYWHERE in the city.
Here I am equipped w/ wristguards bc I broke my left wrist on rollerblades about 10 yrs ago and I don’t need a repeat of that experience ever. Took this pic awhile ago, back when I was not smiling for selfies. Also featured: my actual real curly hair which I usually straighten bc of reasons I could go into if u really want to know.
I have also changed my couch covering since then, no more hot pink! But I do still have that blanket and use it when it gets bitter cold here.
3. Handmodeling
I have an off-and-on career as a hand model and even tho I hardly do it anymore (scheduling conflicts mostly), I really liked it, and I still think my hands are aesthetically pleasing. Like c’mon, look at those airplane-hangar shaped nails! 100% REAL.
4. NYC
As u may or may not have gathered by now, I live in New York City. It’s pretty cool. Yeah. I live on the West side, near Columbus Circle. So if there’s anything you need photographed in NYC, I might be willing to go do it for ya!
5. I CAN ONLY COOK A LIMITED MENU
But that menu includes very good French Toast. I have received rave reviews from actual foodies so I know it’s not just my bias. That’s turkey bacon with it. 10/10 would bang highly recommend.
If you want to know even MORE about me…
My policy with this blog is that it should only be VC-related… and that means I can’t be in it very much as a human, but maybe I should change that. Do you really want to know more about me?
I’m very approachable tho, so if you come off anon and message me privately, then I can feel more free to talk about myself w/out spamming my followers’ dashes! *u*
First of all thank you for such a lovely compliment! THAT MEANS ALOT AND YOU MEAN ALOT.
I made this the blog I wanted to find when I was looking for VC fandom action. People like you who follow it and love it and tell me so, you give me life.
*cries a little bc of the feels*
AHEM okay, *straightens up* so, as far as VC casting, I was asked this awhile back and I still haven’t been able to answer, and couldn’t figure out why I was feeling speechless about it. That’s why I’m attempting to answer now, with this “I can’t answer!” answer. Why not? Why can’t I seem to motivate myself to do a full VC cast when it would be a fun thing to attempt?? After some introspection…
Short answer is:
When you say ALL, there are so many characters to consider I get overwhelmed,
I have a relatively open mind, which means I might consider ppl who may not “look the part,”**
And there are ppl from different eras who are too old now who I WOULD HAVE WANTED SO MUCH.
I prefer fanart of the characters over a lot of the current actors available. Check my #fave tag for my faves ^_____^
(**After all, AR was vociferous about Tom Cruise not “looking the part” but then when she saw his performance she praised him to high heaven; showing us all that it’s somewhat unfair not to give an actor the chance to prove his craft, that he’s more than his physical attributes.
Really phenomenal acting transcends physical appearance, it can even alter physical appearance within one scene.
Also isn’t that Hamilton Musical doing great w/ race-swapped characters? So that’s another consideration, too.)
That’s the abridged gist of it :- so check my #vc castingtag, it has a wide variety of character options to peruse (some were submitted or suggested to me, some I’ve offered up for consideration) and my opinions about them *u*
Hit the jump for the long-windier reasons why “I can’t answer!”
1 – There are TONS of characters in VC, I mean, do you want to go into minor characters, as far as like, that mortal Emily who was already dead in IWTV, killed by that zombie vampire, and her bereft spouse/fiancé/boyfriend Morgan (I think that was his name, can’t check rn)? Arjun? Is he a minor character? Not in Pandora’s book, but he’s hardly sketched out in Blood and Gold.
There are a lot of characters and honestly if I were to do a post like that, I would want to be very thorough, with notes backing my reasons, it would be a REALLY long post, possibly need to be done in several parts, it would take hours, and it would probably be met with like 5 likes, 2 reblogs, and possibly a bunch of disagreement 😦
While I don’t post things For the Notes, when I’m going to invest a good chunk of my time in a fandom Thing, I do it for something I can’t resist doing bc I care about it deeply, or it’s for someone I know specifically, or it’s something hilarious that I have a pretty good feeling will amuse my kind of people.
I did this long post about casting Rose de Lioncourt, and it got 16 notes, so it seeeeems like ppl didn’t really care enough about her, and it took me at least an hour to put that together, it was basically a labor of love from me since I cared about it deeply enough. *shrugs*
VC casting is fun to discuss but bc we had such a terrible experience with QOTD, and there’s been little news of another adaptation, it’s hard to get REALLY excited about ;n;
2 – So as I said, I’m really generous with actors, so I have trouble picking just ONE per role, I would need them to screentest!
It also depends on their combinations with other actors and which story the director has chosen to tell. For example, whoever is cast as Louis has to work well with be really gay with whoever is cast as Lestat *u* BUT they have a very different relationship in IWTV than they do in TOBT.
Same goes for casting someone like Armand, if we’re telling the story of TVA, the actor will need to be able to show the evolution from mortal to vampire, and a lot of other major changes in his life and unlife. But if it’s QOTD, it’s not Armand’s story specifically, but his role is more about his relationship with Daniel. That affects the casting choice.
3 – A lot of singers from the 90’s, or 80’s, or even earlier, would make fantastic Lestats.
I would hope that the next VC movie shows Lestat as Monsieur Le Rockstar, if not on stage, at least working something out privately at home, and actually singing lyrics that are not terrible, lol. I would want a Lestat who can sing, since it’s such a huge part of his identity as a performer.
Also, that Björn Andrésen is pretty much my purest headcanon for Armand, but alas, that actor is 61 now ;A;
With actors who are too old, we can use them as a point of inspiration, casting agents probably take kid!pics of adult actors in order to find a point of inspiration when they need to cast the child version of those actors in films.
4 – The fanart in our fandom is incredible. So much of it! We are spoiled with so many fandom treasures in our fanartist collection. We have hilarious fanartists, serious ones, all flavors. Check my #fave tag for my faves ^_____^
You come into MY HOUSE and you use L&L?? Oh it’s on.
Such a loving couple. Still a better love story than Twilight.
@i-want-my-iwtv Et c’est reparti mon kiki! Cute couple you said?
Is it really a better love story than Twilight?
^MON DIEU I THINK YOU HAVE BEATEN ME “I SHIP MY FIST WITH YOUR FACE AND IT’S ABOUT TO BE CANON” *flails* TRAITOR AS A TERM OF ENDEARMENT!! BUT WOUNDED, I SOLDIER ON…
Thanks! *u* You want my opinion on cosplay? Hmmmm *cracks knuckles*
Cosplay, for me, isn’t just about the looks, it’s also in the attitude. So if someone’s eyes aren’t the shade as described in the book it’s not a dealbreaker. I think I prefer silly/parody cosplays because it’s so hard to achieve the serious dramatic quality one gets with the added $$$, experienced professionals of cinematography, costume design, lighting, etc., that the film industry relies on when making films. When you aim for silly/parody, it’s truly more about the performance than the physical look.
That said, here’s an example I like of everyman as Lestat:
I think it works! Looking at his other pics, he’s really gone to great lengths to recreate scenes/relationships, and he’s got good Lestatuesque body language and attitude.
As for the Louis, yeah, in most of the pics he seems #ooc, but I think ^this expression is excellent! He’s got the “Lestat omfg STOP” just under his dignified veneer. Nice sharp French features, great outfit, looks like the right age. He could even work as Nicolas. If only this guy worked as well in his front angle as his profile *siiiigh*.
Melodysknight as Lestat gets massive points for also playing the IWTV pieces.
I have a cosplay tag if you want more, but for now (in no special order):
Aaaaand have a terrible Louis cosplay by Daniel Tosh, but I don’t think he was going for accuracy (had to include at least one more male cosplayer here, what can I say, female cosplayers just seem to do it better!):
Good question! You might want to ask carpenoctem-vampirology, I think she’s found a way to !!earn a living!! through her fascination with vampires, for which I will always be envious!
I find alot about them fascinating, mainly their psychology (human, but tranformed; they exist outside alot of the human struggle for self-preservation but are still subject to similar needs) and their physiology (how are they made? How are they destroyed? What’s the deal with crucifixes? What about coffins? How do their systems function on just blood as a nutrition source? What is up with those Dark Gifts? etc.).
However it’s not ALL vampires that are fascinating to me. I’m aware of the wide spectrum of vampire media out there, but the ones I find most fascinating (and that doesn’t mean they’re the BEST, just what I prefer) are:
Ricean – This vampire species has so much baggage, excitement, chemistry, drama, and it tries to explore the how and why of vampires both as creatures and as people. Also they’re all pretty hawt.
The Lost Boys – I just love the badassery of these vampires, very grunge and rockstar-ish and there’s the added bonus of kid!vampire hunters!
30 Days of Night – these ones are actually monstrous, not the kind you wrap in silk/lace/velvet and cuddle with by candlelight. I love the way the humans try to find a way to beat them, involving an enormous personal sacrifice.
Daybreakers – This concept is intriguing, a whole world of vampires, serving blood in ’50s style coffeeshops?! Also SAM NEIL as a vampire dad omg.
Let the Right One In – both the original and the remake… an exploration of what it’s like to become a vampire’s companion in the truest sense of the word. The vampire as a flawed creature who is still capable of love.
Only Lovers Left Alive – Do you want to see SWINTON, HIDDLESTON, and WASIKOWSKA as vampires? AWWW YISSS. This was a modern-day idea of what it would be like to be this creature that suffers existential ennui, appreciates music and nature, nurtures kindness, is actually very fragile in their reliance upon humans for survival. And also blood popsicles.
Dracula – the original, bc of reasons. How charming was Bela Lugosi?? omg he can bite me any night.
Dracula – the one with Gary Oldman, bc of reasons.
Nosferatu – because I can’t have a vampire list and leave that classic masterpiece out.
Shadow of the Vampire – SO COOL like a behind-the-scenes of the filming of Nosferatu!
Probably missing something important here but you’ve had enough, haven’t you? lol.
