Hi, I only started reading the VC last year so I am really new to the fandom. So far I have only read the first two books and a lot of people seem to not like many of the sequels. Could you suggest which one of the other books I should/should not read?

Welcome to our stable of unstable vampires! 😀

That’s true, some people don’t consider the books past #4 (Tale of the Body Thief) or #5 (Memnoch the Devil) to be canon.

Definitely read these:
– Queen of the Damned (but the movie is terrible and only loosely simialr to the book, don’t traumatize yourself with that!)
– Tale of the Body Thief – Lestat takes Doing the Thing to an extreme.
– the Vampire Armand – bc of reasons.
– Memnoch the Devil – this one presents some really interesting stuff on religion, it’s almost like fanfic of the Bible; I’m not a religious person and I still got alot out of it. Plus it has alot of Feels.
They do get exponentially more insane starting with #5 (someone coined the phrase “the Vampire Crackicles” for those) but that doesn’t mean they’re not worth a try. It’s still intriguing to know what happens/happened to the characters. I think you should keep going in order and see what you think!

VC – Memnoch Shenanigans by Eeba-ism

“Oh the horror on Armand’s face…

And David, the pity, the sympathy…

And the shining gamine figure of my Dora, my slender yearning Dora with her huge black eyes…

I rolled her over gently… and pulled up her skirt…” – the Vampire Lestat, Memnoch the Devil

Oh. My. God.

Ok, ok… of course this moment seemed dramatic to me when I first read it, which is why i highlighted it (u should see all my VC books lol.. they glow).

But when I went back to read it again I couldn’t help but laugh myself sick imagining Armand’s and David’s reactions to Lestat’s particular choice in cuisine once he’d made it back to Earth.

This is completely OOC, I know. But whatever. I couldn’t resist at least drawing a crappy little picture. It was just too funny in my head.

Oh, and I draw Armand with freckles. Deal.

This is. I would say. The Squickiest scene in the whole series. And 50% of the squick is the fact that poor David and Armand are just standing there watching it happen.

I love the fanart tho! This is probably the only fanart of that scene.

The vampire for me is a metaphor for the outsider, the outcast, the predator in all of us —- the lonely one, the heart and soul that feels immortal even when it knows that we all die. Vampire characters help me to talk about reality. They always have. When I’m with Lestat, and Armand and Louis, and Gabrielle, I’m in the real world. All colors blaze bright and music soars to Heaven and I’m not lonely for a while, I’m safe. And that’s why I write about them and through them and with them.

When she writes things like this I can’t help but love her somewhat (despite all the reasons not to), because when I/we read the VC, all colors blaze bright and music soars to Heaven and I’m not lonely for a while, I’m safe. And that’s why I read about them and through them and with them.

You know what I mean? She’s brought us together with this fantasy world, and if that isn’t magic in itself, to create a fandom and bring together friends (and lovers!) for life, or even temporarily, I don’t know what is.

i say we, VC fandom, collect money and buy it and go live there

mysterieuxpersonnage damned-and-fallen what’s going on? couldn’t afford your mortgage??

“Mortgage? Hah.. I never lived there, it’s just a smoke screen as you say, and it keeps the tourists away from my real abode, but perhaps all of us Draculesti and other children of the night should ‘chip in’ and buy it, imagine the parties…”

“ what parties indeed! think of the clean up….and who is gonna get called? the order…”

I love this.
