The Vampire Armand

I literally have no idea what to do with The Vampire Armand.  I remember reading it when I was young and being utterly disgusted with Armand.  I still am revolted by what he did to Claudia, his selfishness and hollowness, and how he has managed to forgive himself while still being so cruel to Louis, whom he, let’s put it plainly, used.

And then again I think about the child whom Marius saved, I think that Marius could not have made a worse blunder in his existence.  Of course Santino would choose Armand to preach his religion.  Armand was already so given to putting first one and then the other person or ideology on a pedastal, and dedicating himself to it blindly.  I pity Armand.

But…Louis was just as cruel to Armand as he was to him. Perhaps even more so. Louis admits it. Armand also has a tendency to lie, so whether or not he actually did that to Claudia is unsure. After all, the only person who last saw Claudia was Louis and you would think he would notice if her head wasn’t on the right body—ashes or not. ;c There’s a lot more to Armand, but you’re certainly scratching the surface. )

#Faceofabotticelliangel #Accurate #Eloquent Eloquence

I don’t believe Armand re: the Claudia experiment, he had his motives for making David think he was the kind of twisted mad-scientist (at that time) who would try that, and yet, he spun it in such a way that it seemed like he actually was trying to help her get what she wanted most (if in fact it happened at all)(which I don’t think it did):

“I tried to grant her fondest wish, that she should have the body of a woman…The fire of Heaven destroyed the awful unhealed evidence of my Satanic surgery as it turned her to a monument in ash. No evidence remained of her last hours within the torture chamber of my makeshift laboratory. No one need ever have known what I say now.” – The Vampire Armand

Much sadness, very cry ;n;

So i finally got around to seeing IWTV, and I understand a lot of the changes (turning Paul into dead wife and kid) were kinda necessary, but one scene threw me for a loop. Louis is talking about how Claudia had her own coffin, and the movie shows her getting out of said coffin *during the day* tiptoeing around the light thrown from the sun in the windows and getting into Louis Coffin. WTF?

Okay yisss, good 😀  Embrace my Wall of Text™©®:

I think the Paul deal would have been difficult to convey without adding alot of extra scenes, it’s quicker convey Louis’ feeling of being bereft when it’s a wife dying in childbirth.

THE CLAUDIA tip-toeing around the SUNLIGHT THING. Yes. I had this problem, too, when I first saw the movie. According to movie!Louis, “She slept in my coffin at first… ‘till the day came when she wanted one of her own. But still, whenever she awoke, she would crawl into mine.“

The scene shows sunlight spilling in, it could be sunrise, afternoon, some other time… dunno!

In the book, it seemed pretty clear that Louis and Claudia would go to their own coffins before sunrise, and that Claudia would come back out right before dawn and climb into Louis’ coffin. Remember that their sleep is not mortal sleep, it’s the Death Sleep, and they begin to slip into it before sunrise, and it slowly immobilizes them. Unless they’re being attacked, there’s nothing that can wake them during the day (and even then, they’re only fighting back unconsciously/involuntarily).

In the movie, it seems to imply that they have normal mortal sleep and that she might wake up at ANY TIME during the day, the way human kids wake up at any hour of the night to crawl into their parents’ beds. Certainly, tip-toeing around the pools of sunlight is kind of endearing in this scenario, might have been Anne Rice’s idea even (she wrote the script, remember) for something cute to make us like Claudia more.

However, in VC CANON, tip-toeing around that sunlight wouldn’t have worked, just a teensy sliver of light when she started to open the coffin lid would have been painful enough to shut it, and not open it any further. Again though, in VC CANON, her Death Sleep would have kept her from even trying, she’d have been asleep already.

So I hope that answers that! Movie!Claudia can handle more sunlight than Canon!Claudia.

He said it all

What TH said about the couple in OLLA is so applicable to all of the VC ships. Definitely THIS ONE.

How many ships have the stamina for immortality? to borrow from Armand.

Just predicting that Only Lovers Left Alive is going to be a hot topic of comparison in the VC fandom.

I had a crush on Tom Cruise because of this movie.

(Unfortunate decisions by tall brunettes! I feel you Katie Holmes.)

But look, I couldn’t help it. Lestat wasn’t just a snarky blond bisexual vampire who treated sacred vampire laws as skittles in the bowling alley of his life.

(VAMPIRE ELDERS: We claw our way from the grave promptly at—

LESTAT: What up, just out of my bed of silk and velvet. LADIES, THINK ABOUT SHOWERS.

VAMPIRE ELDERS: Here is the throne room of the king and queen of all vampires, preserved in silent immortality. Gaze upon them from a reverent distance.

LESTAT: I just made out with the vampire queen’s face.

VAMPIRE ELDERS: All vampires must be anonymous. Keep us secret, keep us safe.

LESTAT: I’ve become a rock star!!!)

He was also, as we see in this very gif set, an astute critic of the problem of vampire literature.

Lestat is, in many ways, basically an eternal teenager* (he’s like 20 but he totally was.)

Vampire Elders: DO NOT DO THIS ONE THING ABOVE ALL.

Lestat: *does it* *DOES IT BIGGER*

Louis: Don’t you think maybe you shouldn’t do that….

LESTAT: *DOES IT IN YOUR FACE ON MTV* *DOES IT AND MAKES IT COOL*

Louis: *sigh*

These books were my childhood. In retrospect, that probably explains a lot about me.

*I mean that in the best way. Teenagers are awesome and trying to figure out themselves and the world, and Lestat was the same way.

I think this kind of speech is why Lestat is so in love with Shakespeare.

Yes. Dripping with sarcasm!

He quotes Othello in the IWTV movie when killing the whore in front of Louis (strikethroughs are words he cut out):

Yet she must die, else she’ll betray more men.

Put out the light, and then put out the light.

If I quench thee, thou flaming minister,

I can again thy former light restore

Should I repent me. But once put out thy light,

Thou cunning’st pattern of excelling nature,

I know not where is that Promethean heat

That can thy light relume. When I have plucked thy rose

I cannot give it vital growth again,

Its needs must wither.”

(The last line should actually be “It must needs wither.”)

Interview with the Vampire: A deleted Scene!!

So in the original script there was an extended scene when Lestat enters Louis’s bedroom. Before the invitation, Louis threatens Lestat with not only a gun but also a sword.

where are these I wants deleted scenes zomg…

It might never have been shot in the first place, though I’ll bet there’s material shot that we never saw. It drives me crazy…

Such sad that it may never have been shot in the first place… and/or was  included with material we never saw… since AR wrote the script, I do think she wanted to keep as true to the characters as possible, I consider the script to be worth a read for this reason.

I found the scene, it was good, I can see why they didn’t include it, maybe to keep more mystery at that point… anyway, the script’s here, or you can check out a piece of this scene we’re talking about in my post here:

Vampire Dr. Grant! etc.

IWTV is one the best vampire movie out there. RT is duummmbbb; I like Daybreakers but not over IWTV

IWTV was at 61% and Daybreakers was at 67%, so it wasn’t a huge difference—and IWTV did vastly better with audiences—but yes… I definitely disagree with RT on a lot of things, but they don’t usually mess up that badly.

The Daybreakers concept was intriguing, too. But yeah, c’mon RT, IWTV is a classic, it set a high bar for future vampire films, etc. etc., so idk and idec what the “professional critics” think of it. Just look at those audience numbers.
