In response to a number of political things happening in the Real World that I don’t post about here but I think about… and that this response will continue to be necessary for, probably.
♛You may say so. He has no idea how delicious he is. No matter how many times he’s told. Probably for the best.
He’s actually very sensitive about being objectified like this, so I try to keep my appreciation of him to my physical expression of love, rather than verbal praise *winks*
What you’re interpreting as his “sexy” eyes, or that he’s capable of looking into people’s souls, that’s usually his ability to spellbind others, and he does it without even consciously trying to do so. It’s not just his physical attributes, it’s one of his vampiric gifts he hasn’t really needed to consciously hone. I wish that he would, though *dreamy sigh*
♛Guilty of being anaemic? That’s not necessarily under your control. I’m not a doctor, and I don’t study blood like our scientific brethren do… I know what I like to drink, though, and for me, the physicality of the blood is merely the carrier for the moment that I’m locked to my victim, to take what I really require, which is their essence, their soul. I don’t discriminate based on taste; I would just prefer it to be living! (Dead blood is not poisonous, but it’s so so distasteful.)
I’m sure that I have tasted this already, apparently anaemia affects a quarter of the population. One of the causes of it is blood loss, so I’m sure I’ve been the cause of it for some of my Little Drink victims *grins* Oh well…
Other causes of anaemia are dietery, genetic or infections, and as far as I know, whatever the engine is that makes me what I am defends me perfectly from all of these. I’ve never had an illness in that sense. It’s physical food and drink that I can’t handle, but that just comes back the way it came. Very unattractive when that has happened. I can take little sips of real drinks, yes, but none of it has ever had much taste to me.
I won’t lie, I love trying new flavors of blood, Little Drinks from partygoers, and I have a taste for bourbon by proxy now. Drugs? Not as much, as I’m wary of allowing myself into that far of an altered state of mind. Potheads, yes, when I’m in the mood for a gentle kind of high.
As for your question though, I do notice variation in the taste and texture of different blood types, but I usually don’t know the reason. Something a little flatter about blood with less red blood cells or smaller red blood cells, perhaps the closest comparison would be champagne that has gone a little flat, but all mortal blood is still preferable to animal blood. There’s more in it that we need than the physical substance; we need the soul as well.
Although I have met many animals with much more soul than some of the evildoers I have to get involved with, human souls are just more nutritious for us, for whatever reason. Even Gabrielle has confessed to me that she ends up needing to hunt indigenous tribes every so often on her travels, to supplement her usual non-human intake.
♛Don’t think I don’t know a gold-digger when I see one, anonyme. Louis has never wanted gold or power, in fact, these things are repulsive to him personally; I have to take off my crown when we make love! And that’s all I’m telling you about that.
He can be a real b* sometimes, but to be fair, I bring that out in him. I LIKE IT.
My goal with this blog has always been to share fanworks and positivity (and the #not VC stuff that slips in if I feel like it serves some relevant purpose) and to make people feel included, if possible.
Fandom is a nebulous thing, but being supportive of fanworks and ideas is a good way to be inclusive. It’s made the whole experience so rich for me, and brought some wonderful ppl into my life, whether I talk to them regularly or just see their comments/tags, see their RP or ideas in my dash, etc ^_____^
Yes, I remember your encouraging comments on the
collab I did w/ @wicked-felina (Rebness). Thank u for sticking with us throughout, your comments really kept us motivated and fast with the updates *hugs* Comments like yours made it so much more fun than if Rebness and I were writing just for each other, and we definitely want to collab again! ♥♥♥
The author reinforce this by adding that, when they adopted Claudia, Louis took the maternal role. What do you think? ( Pt 2/2 )
It’s not a groundbreaking concept, we often talk of mommy!Louis in fandom. If there were a “mom” in that relationship, Louis would be more of that than Lestat was! ❤
#don’t you love the way Claudia snuggles in there #tucks herself in #like she’s actually Louis’ doll? #she is 80% made of that dress and those curls #how he places that little kiss on top of her head right before he shuts the lid #Right before theyll be in total darkness #just to reassure her #He is such a good mom
^my tags on that gif, bc I do love mommy!Louis ❤
(Lestat was actually Claudia’s biological maker, it’s his blood that turns her; she is technically Lestat’s fledgling, which actually makes Louis her “brother”!)
Louis was based on Anne Rice herself; Lestat was based on her husband, Stan; and Claudia on her own daughter, Michele, so you could say Louis was the “mom” bc of who he was based on. IWTV was partly about AR investigating the tragic loss of her own daughter through these characters. Louis’ separation from Claudia was not his choice; neither was AR’s from her own daughter ;A;
When you’re a Ricean vampire, gender doesn’t really matter, it definitely doesn’t matter physically in making new vampires, which is how they procreate. Post-IWTV!Lestat is much more into fashion, jewelry, and other typically “feminine-specific” stuff/activities that Louis has little or no tolerance for. Lestat is also one of the most prolific makers we know of in the series. The act of making fledglings could be compared to pregnancy, and he loves doing it, so that could make him more “feminine” than Louis, who has only made two fledglings (but both were made under duress, not 100% his choice).
Lestat and Louis both parented her in their own ways. Lestat took Claudia out and taught her to hunt, and all this other stuff he shared with her that Louis couldn’t. Hunting can be considered more “masculine.” You could label more domestic things like literature “feminine,” I guess, and that’s what Louis offered her. IWTV!Lestat was just more interested in action and less interested in introspection. Your author says that one of Louis’ feminine traits is “speaking about his feelings,” Lestat does TONS of that in later books. So if you only read IWTV, you miss out on that.
The other thing is that IWTV is Louis’ account, so yes, it paints Lestat a certain way, when Lestat was frustrated that he couldn’t reveal so many secrets that it drove a wedge between them. I feel like most of Lestat’s “masculine” behavior is just about that frustration, at having to keep his history a secret because of Marius’s threats.
As Lestat puts it in TVL, Louis’ account is somewhat accurate:
“…which for all its contradictions and terrible
misunderstandings manages to capture the atmosphere in which Claudia and Louis and I came together and stayed together for sixty-five
years…
But he adds this about Louis as a narrator:
“[Louis’] blindness to
the motives or the suffering of others was as much a part of his charm
as his soft unkempt black hair or the eternally troubled expression in
his green eyes.
So I wouldn’t say you can totally define Lestat and Louis’ gender roles in their relationship based solely on reading IWTV. But many of us, myself included, enjoy daydreaming about mommy!Louis ❤
