They had a very intense and rocky beginning that seemed to skip over the dating phase directly to marriage, then parenting, and then the separation for around 100 years.
I wouldn’t say they “date” in canon in the conventional sense of the word. There are certain moments they have together like that heartbreaking little scene when they met the night before Lestat’s concert (TVL), and another time when Lestat drags Louis against his will to go pester David Talbot for the first time (QOTD) 😛
…But in a more general sense, they do sort of Netflix and chill together. From Tale of the Body Thief:
“It’s amazing how often he came to visit me in my overheated and brilliantly illuminated rooms downtown. There he watched my giant television screen for hours. Sometimes he brought his own films for it on disk or tape. The Company of Wolves, that was one which he watched over and over… There were many other films which delighted him. But these visits could never be commanded by me, and they never lasted very long. He often deplored the “rank materialism” in which I “wallowed” and turned his back on my velvet cushions and thickly carpeted floor, and lavish marble bath. You’d think, for one of the fandom’s main ships, there would be more of it explicitly canon. There just isn’t, sadly. Part of why it’s such a tough ship is that AR just does not let us have much in terms of fluff of them! It mostly happens off-screen. Which is where fanfic steps in to satisfy that need ;]
From the fans who fell into VC since before my time, to the fresh blood (heh heh) who are just wading into it w/ us now, you’ve all made my tumblr experience so rich, I can’t even properly express how blown away I am on a daily basis how many of you send me such lovely messages and intriguing asks, and fanart, etc. and just… how, with your input, this blog has become the blog I wanted to find for all the years I searched for one. The thing about VC fanfic is that we still have to be sort of careful about sharing it bc of reasons. Even so, I feel compelled to give you something. And again, I try not to play favorites *sigh* but in the case of fanfic, I can be a little more lenient and rec a few things out ^_____^ The following content is slightly revised from how I answered an Ask seeking fanfic awhile back.

Gulfport: A British Petroleum Fanfic (Part One) by hw_campbell_jnr – There are 2 parts and it’s incomplete but this is devastatingly beautiful long!fic. Hipster modern Lestat and Louis, both going by pseudonyms, politics woven in, it’s just too good. It annoys me how good it is. I am annoyed. I would be less annoyed if it were COMPLETED *forcibly nudges the author*

♛Louis recently dragged me to this place in Buenos Aires kicking and screaming, I mean, a bookstore? Go down deep into South America for a bookstore. I was livid. Had to distract myself on the jet there by furiously scouring the internet for a drug cartel or some other high-level evildoer group to hunt there. I protested the entire trip. I laid such thick disdain on him for it…
[X] Until I walked through the entrance and fell in complete love with the place. A theatre! Converted, well, really more of a library, than a mere bookstore! Brightly lit, with people seated at tables on stage, delectable smelling coffees served as a pianist filled the space with pleasant melody. Small areas on balconies where still more people immersed themselves in fact and fiction. The place had a sense of grandeur, there was an echo of the history, all the stories that were orally told there, and all the stories now being told in paper.
It warmed my black little heart to make that connection, that a storyteller is still a storyteller, and an audience member still an audience member, in different fashions through the ages.
I had to find my section, of course. All of my novels have been translated into Spanish, and there they stood on two long shelves. I saw several fresh young teens sitting on the floor with my books open on their laps. If they had looked up for a moment, I’m sure they would have recognized me.
When I pointed out to him that there were no copies of Louis’ book, so it must be unpopular, he had the audacity to retort that his book was a better seller than any one of mine, and a quick inquiry with a salesperson confirmed that they were indeed sold out of his book. WELL.
I autographed a few copies of mine and tucked them back on the shelf anyway.
Marius appreciates Louis for his human tenderness, his empathy, and Louis comes to Marius for paternal support. When they play strategy games like cards or chess, they’re among the best-matched opponents in the coven. Pandora’s at their level, too. All three have excellent poker faces.
Marius finds Louis aesthetically appealing but doesn’t have any romantic intentions towards him, but even so, he can’t help but be curious about “upgrading” Louis. For how it might enhance Louis, but also possibly bc the act itself, the intimacy involved, is kind of tantalizing to think about ;]

…Then he embraced Louis again warmly. Just a little blood, and Louis might be stronger, true, but then he might lose the human tenderness, the human wisdom that no one could give another; the gift of knowing others’ suffering with which Louis had probably been born.”
