Have you or Louis ever heard of or have ever been to a library called El Ateneo Grand Splendid? It’s a 100 year old Theatre converted into a library in Argentina. I’ve only seen pictures of it and it looks amazingly beautiful.

♛Louis recently dragged me to this place in Buenos Aires kicking and screaming, I mean, a bookstore? Go down deep into South America for a bookstore. I was livid. Had to distract myself on the jet there by furiously scouring the internet for a drug cartel or some other high-level evildoer group to hunt there. I protested the entire trip. I laid such thick disdain on him for it…

[X] Until I walked through the entrance and fell in complete love with the place. A theatre! Converted, well, really more of a library, than a mere bookstore! Brightly lit, with people seated at tables on stage, delectable smelling coffees served as a pianist filled the space with pleasant melody. Small areas on balconies where still more people immersed themselves in fact and fiction. The place had a sense of grandeur, there was an echo of the history, all the stories that were orally told there, and all the stories now being told in paper.

It warmed my black little heart to make that connection, that a storyteller is still a storyteller, and an audience member still an audience member, in different fashions through the ages.

I had to find my section, of course. All of my novels have been translated into Spanish, and there they stood on two long shelves. I saw several fresh young teens sitting on the floor with my books open on their laps. If they had looked up for a moment, I’m sure they would have recognized me.

When I pointed out to him that there were no copies of Louis’ book, so it must be unpopular, he had the audacity to retort that his book was a better seller than any one of mine, and a quick inquiry with a salesperson confirmed that they were indeed sold out of his book. WELL.

I autographed a few copies of mine and tucked them back on the shelf anyway.

I really want to know your stance on the musical – I personally love the score, but think that the book and production value tore it apart.

^fanart by @garama, who must have seen it live or the video of it, and has drawn fanart based on the musical, so he must have liked it! This is one of my all-time fave fanarts of Nicki/Lestat ❤ i just want to buy a whole graphic novel in this beautiful heartfelt style is that so much to ask *cries*

Some ppl loved Lestat the Musical, and more power to them! I am jealous of them. IDK if you saw the SF version or NYC version, live or video of it, but I saw the NYC version live and I did not like it. I partially blame the NYC producers for that, bc they apparently stripped out alot of the flair and gay stuff, maybe they were afraid it was pushing the envelope too far? But isn’t that what theatre is supposed to do? *sigh*

You can find ppl who enjoyed it, and other stuff about it, in my #Lestat the Musical tag.

Sadly, I mostly feel second-hand embarrassment for Lestat the Musical bc I made the mistake of inviting my cousin to go w/ me. She was not in the fandom, and she was uncomfortable the whole time *facepalm* Idk I thought she’d be into it, but the NYC version we saw was stripped so bare, and there was little to engage with. I can’t even listen to the soundtrack! It just brings me back to how disappointed I was in the bareness of the production, at the whole audience’s lack of enthusiasm… much cry, very sad.

So I have to be cautiously optimistic about the adaptation in the works and hope that they considered Lestat the Musical and can avoid its pitfalls.

So Lestat had Mojo. What animals do you see the other vampire’s gravitating to?

Louis@merciful-death’s Louis has a black cat named Harriet (#headcanon accepted!). She leaves him dead mice often, and according to Lestat (@devilsfool): “She hunts them to try to feed you. She’s convinced that you are a terrible hunter.”

image

[^X]

Harriet’s first snow! Harriet was a fierce and successful huntress from an early age, trying her best to keep Louis fed ❤

I also see Louis as being visited frequently by a big stray tomcat, and Lestat doesn’t approve of this one either bc MORE CAT HAIR ON VELVET FURNITURE. Velvet is very cat-hair-ophillic. This cat doesn’t have a name but Louis calls him by a lot of baby names (”Mon chou,” “Sir Fluff,” “Kitten,”) and Lestat calls him by a lot of rude names (”Hairball,” “Trashface,” “Loaf”). This cat actually followed Harriet to their home one night, and he likes to nap with her when she allows it.

Lestat – I know you didn’t ask about Lestat but I have to include him a little more! According to @annabellioncourt, “Lestat was also a canon dog person, and while there are people who love both (hi) I think with Lestat’s constant need for validation he’d be a total dog person.

Like no cats at all.

He hissed back at Louis’s cat once.

Lestat almost always has a dog, and he has meticulous memory of all the dogs he ever had.“

^#headcanon accepted.

Daniel – Lizards! Frogs! Snakes! Reptiles in general. Also insects. He has a big pinned collection, featuring gorgeous butterflies and buprestidae. Lestat loves this collection and goes to reptile houses with Daniel on occasion. They both love cobras.

Armand – I can’t find the canon evidence but I’m pretty sure he had big fancy aquariums on Night Island.

[X] Armand is truly fascinated with owls, owls are totes his spirit animal, deceptively powerful in their small size. Their symbolism for intelligence and careful planning. And y’know, they’re basically "flying pillows filled with seething hatred.” like Armand!

Hit the jump for a bit more.

Marius had taxidermied animals: “giant stuffed beasts mounted in lifelike attitudes – the brown bear, the lion, the tiger, even the elephant standing in his own immense chamber, lizards as big as dragons, birds of prey clutching dried branches made to look like the limbs of real trees.” -TVL

Marius also had a “giant aquarium, the great room-sized tank” filled w/ “rare and beautiful tropical fish” and caged birds. – QOTD

Claudia loved birds, especially small ones. She likes songbirds especially. She also loved rabbits but more for their fur than their personality.

I like Lestat so much purely because of how much he reminds me of myself. I fancied myself as looking somewhat like him before even getting into IWTV, and I just keep finding more reflections of myself in his personality. We have incredibly similar philosophies about life, existence, morality and tradition, and even a lot of the same flaws and difficulties relating to others. The main difference is I’m not brave enough to handle being famous.

♫WE WILL WE WILL ROCK U♫

Yeah, same here! (except that I don’t look like him at all *cries*) We can go along with him on his journey and gather the reasons for our own philosophical choices and see the mistakes and why he made them, and ask ourselves what we would have done differently, or the same, in his position.

He does have flaws, for sure. Flaws that could spiral anyone into depression. But his lust for life overrides everything ❤

And I think part of why we all love him against our own better judgment is that even when he royally fracks up, he gets back up, dusts himself off, and careens into the next car.

If I knew how nice Lestat was to people that had nightmares about him, maybe he wouldn’t have plagued so many nights of my childhood (I saw IWTV when I was around seven with my sis, waay to early for some scenes) :D

Awww, I’m sure it wasn’t his intention to be your nightmare material! He’s very apologetic, both to you, and to anyone else he’s frightened. He says Tom’s portrayal was actually much kinder than the truth and he’s grateful certain things were toned down or left out entirely.

image

He’s not responding to this message directly himself bc he’s feeling a little defensive about it. Lestat takes issue w/ the adults who let you watch that movie at such a young age, like the adults who made him go on that fun field trip to the witches’ place where innocent people were burned to death. Adults sometimes don’t get how impressionable children are, or they don’t care. Lestat’s guilty of terrifying his own fledglings, but there was usually a good reason for it. Like knocking some sense into them!

Lestat’s also reminding me that Louis told that story to Daniel, who was an adult (at least legally) at the time, and Louis intended that story to get to Lestat, to provoke him and raise him from wherever he was hiding. It was intended to portray Lestat as both a sweet dream and a beautiful nightmare, anything less might not have pissed him off enough to resurrect him ;]

When I was a kid, I sought out scary stories, bc even though I got nightmares from them, the stories themselves gave me a path through the terror and provided the catharsis of the resolution at the end. Even if it was an unhappy ending, the book/movie ended, and the monster had no more story to tell. It was empowering for me, and I think the way I see monsters like Lestat (bc he IS a monster, let’s not forget that) now is through radical empathy, asking again and again what made him as nasty as he was in IWTV? So many things. Knowing where that kind of behavior comes from is insightful and can give you the keys to dealing with difficult ppl in real life, bc they are EVERYWHERE and they come in endless variations!

Mojo is alive fucking fight me like IGNORE THE TEARS IN MY EYES AND FIGHT ME. LESTAT TURNED HIM BECAUSE LESTAT. *cries 5ever.´*

RIP MOJO THE BEST MOST LOVABLE AND COMPLETELY UNPROBLEMATIC VC CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE SERIES *cries 5ever w/ you*

It’s funny you mention Lestat turning him bc the question was raised, when old age finally started to rear its ugly head… “What if we could heal him with-”

Louis: NO Lestat. No.

Lestat: Just an experiment to-

Louis: We’re not making a vampire dog that’s a crime against nature we have to draw the line somewhere.

Lestat: *pouts*

Louis: *glares*

Lestat: *pouts harder*

Louis: *glares harder*

Lestat: Ok confession time: I already tried to give him a few drops of blood and he was not at all interested. Repulsed really.

Louis: *ragged sigh*

Lestat: It was worth a try!

Louis: Then why were you even asking me?

Lestat: I thought he might prefer yours

Louis: *slaps Lestat hard across the face and storms out*
