Y’know tbqh Lestat had (1) a very finicky eater and then (2) made sort of a crime against nature so you can’t 100% blame his parenting skills.
Oh and if you prefer Louis let’s not forget that all of Louis’ fledglings die.
[X] ^Even tho that happened on nearly a nightly basis, there was a long period of good times, wherein the “one happy family” phrase was not used sarcastically ;A;
Graphics that are watermarked w/ my url are mines, I also use other ppl’s graphics/gifs and include the sources*.
I use a legal version of adobe photoshop to manipulate images and compress gifs, and a legal version of premiere to make video edits and pull footage for gifs.
I don’t know of free programs to recc, ppl can feel free to reblog/comment w/ suggestions on that. I’m wary of freeware bc viruses ;A;
Sorry I can’t be of any direct help on that 😛
I didn’t watermark the images above bc they’re both screencaps, even though I did some manipulation to Claudia’s drawing to flip it and take her hand out. I decide whether to watermark based on how much I’m adding to it and/or how potentially offensive it is, so when it’s not edited very much or it’s pushing the envelope of offense, I don’t watermark it.
*If all I’m doing is taking a gif someone else made from the movie and brightening it I usually don’t watermark or source it. The reason I don’t source those is that I am adding something to them, but since it’s just frames from the movie, it doesn’t really belong to either of us.
Ah yes compliments are always welcome! Thank u *hugs*
Fanfic?? there’s no such thing as VC fanfic… pfffft. What are you crazy honestly??!
^Lestat is laughing bc he knows I is sarcastic.

The thing about VC fanfic is that we still have to be sort of careful about sharing it bc of reasons. Even so, I feel compelled to give you something. And again, I try not to play favorites *sigh* but in the case of fanfic, I can be a little more lenient and rec a few things out ^_____^ The following content is slightly revised from how I answered an Ask seeking fanfic awhile back.
has one of the highest hit counts. L/L lovey fluff *blushes* so maybe start there, but A Precious Material is probably one of my own faves.
Archive of Our Own (aka AO3) has a mission statement about protecting fanworks from copyright infringement arguments, so I feel pretty safe recc’ing stuff that’s on there but dL anything you like, just in case, bc authors also sometimes remove their works w/o warning.
Hit the jump for some reccs
Carriage Ride was a collab I did w/ 3 other authors, and is very short but sweet L/L.
Gulfport: A British Petroleum Fanfic (Part One) by hw_campbell_jnr – There are 2 parts and it’s incomplete but this is devastatingly beautiful long!fic. Hipster modern Lestat and Louis, both going by pseudonyms, politics woven in, it’s just too good. It annoys me how good it is. I am annoyed. I would be less annoyed if it were COMPLETED *forcibly nudges the author*
The Grim Brothers by Rebness – incomplete but it’s a fun little werewolf AU! I hope the author picks it up again someday *forcibly nudges the author*
//ooc; I have a policy of not singling out favorites as it often has the unintentional side effect of making those not mentioned feel left out 😛
We had a blog solely for that purpose, @vcpositivity, and also, for a similar purpose, @vcsecretgifts (which I helped to mod last holiday season and I still owe a substitute gift on!! My fic muse for it has not been cooperating). @vcpositivityhad posted over two hundred positive confessions from members of this fandom in the five months since it opened, but had to go inactive shortly after achieving that milestone *cries*
Those blogs still have great messages of VC fandom love pointing out the best points of specific ppl in the fandom here (sadly, some those mentioned are currently inactive). Both positivity blogs are now pretty much dormant, but I hope we can resurrect @vcsecretgifts for this upcoming holiday season :]
However, it appears to me that our fandom is almost at a zenith of fanwork production right now, and the quality is also very high! Fresh fanart and fanfic are being made, analysis of the text continues to thrive, there is a palpable ripple of excitement (or anxiety, depending on your stance, lol) every time we get a scrap of news about the official VC adaptations.
The VC RP community has fluctuated in activity but it’s active, and there are muses to play with. There are also excellent Original Character muses (vampires and non-vampires) in fic and RP. They’re very creative in how they blend in as if they were always part of the Ricean verse, and even expand the supernatural rules of it.
I would advise you to go to the RPers and ask for recommendations of other members. You could also try my #VC Fandom Hunters tag.
Anyone is welcome to reblog this post and throw positivity towards anyone, or send them an anon message! (ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧
♛Of course I do! I’ve been answering my fans’ messages on this account, and on other accounts as well (Have to maintain a variety of them, so you don’t know which of these is the real McCoy, can’t put Louis’ safety in jeopardy and all that, you understand).
I’m deeply touched that my fans want to dig deeper and ask for more than I’ve already given, I never could have predicted that their ravenous thirst would only increase over time. They’re never satisfied! I also keep their beautiful artworks and writing and go through them whenever I need a little ego stroking *smirks*
That there is such a glut of other vampire media out there and my fans still demand my stories, over and over again, just goes to show that they’re not just into my species as a whole, but specifically, the tales revolving around my coven. I read Sam Spade comics for him specifically; I’m not drawn to all fictional detectives. Something about him and his allies and enemies was compelling. Probably like that for my fans, and is there anything more flattering than being preferred?
My will gives me the strength to continue on the Devil’s Road, but my fans give me the responsibility of being their driver. I know that they ride along with me, and they are always in the back of my mind. Some of them are backseat drivers and would prefer I respect things like the speed limit, but I’m very good at ignoring backseat drivers by now *winks*
♛Louis recently dragged me to this place in Buenos Aires kicking and screaming, I mean, a bookstore? Go down deep into South America for a bookstore. I was livid. Had to distract myself on the jet there by furiously scouring the internet for a drug cartel or some other high-level evildoer group to hunt there. I protested the entire trip. I laid such thick disdain on him for it…
[X] Until I walked through the entrance and fell in complete love with the place. A theatre! Converted, well, really more of a library, than a mere bookstore! Brightly lit, with people seated at tables on stage, delectable smelling coffees served as a pianist filled the space with pleasant melody. Small areas on balconies where still more people immersed themselves in fact and fiction. The place had a sense of grandeur, there was an echo of the history, all the stories that were orally told there, and all the stories now being told in paper.
It warmed my black little heart to make that connection, that a storyteller is still a storyteller, and an audience member still an audience member, in different fashions through the ages.
I had to find my section, of course. All of my novels have been translated into Spanish, and there they stood on two long shelves. I saw several fresh young teens sitting on the floor with my books open on their laps. If they had looked up for a moment, I’m sure they would have recognized me.
When I pointed out to him that there were no copies of Louis’ book, so it must be unpopular, he had the audacity to retort that his book was a better seller than any one of mine, and a quick inquiry with a salesperson confirmed that they were indeed sold out of his book. WELL.
I autographed a few copies of mine and tucked them back on the shelf anyway.
^fanart by @garama, who must have seen it live or the video of it, and has drawn fanart based on the musical, so he must have liked it! This is one of my all-time fave fanarts of Nicki/Lestat ❤ i just want to buy a whole graphic novel in this beautiful heartfelt style is that so much to ask *cries*
Some ppl loved Lestat the Musical, and more power to them! I am jealous of them. IDK if you saw the SF version or NYC version, live or video of it, but I saw the NYC version live and I did not like it. I partially blame the NYC producers for that, bc they apparently stripped out alot of the flair and gay stuff, maybe they were afraid it was pushing the envelope too far? But isn’t that what theatre is supposed to do? *sigh*
You can find ppl who enjoyed it, and other stuff about it, in my #Lestat the Musical tag.
Sadly, I mostly feel second-hand embarrassment for Lestat the Musical bc I made the mistake of inviting my cousin to go w/ me. She was not in the fandom, and she was uncomfortable the whole time *facepalm* Idk I thought she’d be into it, but the NYC version we saw was stripped so bare, and there was little to engage with. I can’t even listen to the soundtrack! It just brings me back to how disappointed I was in the bareness of the production, at the whole audience’s lack of enthusiasm… much cry, very sad.
So I have to be cautiously optimistic about the adaptation in the works and hope that they considered Lestat the Musical and can avoid its pitfalls.
Gosh, you don’t even have to worry about what bills I pay. All you see is my hobby. Isn’t that nice of me?
You know what. No. I have more to say.
This pisses me off. The implication that 45 is too old for a woman to have fun is fucking bullshit.
JJ fucking Abrams is 50, and he’s a fanboy. He’s making AUs, and he’s doing the exact same thing as any fangirl is doing only with a much bigger budget. There are plenty of dudes just like him, too. Comic book artists, writers, directors—all men, all older than me, (I’m 35 by the way, not 45) who are no different. The only difference is that their work is called work and not “being a fangirl.” Their work is respected. Even though fangirl is exactly what they are.
So fuck your jealousy, fuck your misogyny, and most of all fuck you for presuming to know a goddamn thing about my life and what kind of hard work I’ve had to do—not just to draw this well (read: better than you) but to allow myself to be happy about it when the whole entire world has decided I’m not allowed to be. Fuck you for every girl you ever made feel foolish or pathetic for not sacrificing every bit of herself to you.
THIS
You can’t hear it, but I’m clapping for you right now. This. All of this. It’s absolutely perfect. Go you. Fuck them.
Plus, dude, the Renaissance Era is full-on people being forbidden to draw/sculpt/write anything else than Greek and Roman Mythology(/fairy tales) Fanart (or Christian stuff). At the end of it there were debate over debate about “The Ancient and the Modern” as in : the Ancient had come up with the only possible creative stuff, now poor ol’ us cannot do anything better and don’t you dare be original. Tell any French person that Jean de la Fontaine was pathetic because he wrote fanpoems of Aesop and they’ll laugh in your face. The man managed to full on criticize the King who created Absolute Monarchy through poems that are still learned by every person in the country nowadays. Or say that about
Michelangelo or Botticelli. Most of these artists had fun and many loved Greek Mythology. The idea that everything “has” to be original stems more from a reaction to that time period than to an objective Reality.
Yes but EVERYONE YOU MENTIONED IS A MAN.
Michelangelo, Fontaine, Botticelli. Da Vinci, whoever else. Painters, sculptors, writers.
Whenever people use the argument “Renaissance art is just fanart of the Bible or Greek myth” or whatever else, they’re forgetting that all of that stuff was made by men. The reason it’s legitimate and the reason we hang it in museums and remember it isn’t because it’s fanart of the Bible—it’s because men did it.
The second men don’t do it, it stops being legitimate. Of course Renaissance art is fanart. OF COURSE IT IS.
I know fangirls who could out-scholar a room full of Shakespeare professors. I know fangirls who are the greatest writers, the greatest artists, the greatest talents you’ve ever seen. The most passionate, brilliant ladies speaking more passionately and giving more of their time to the things they love than any man. But because they’re fangirls—the operative word being girls—everyone is waiting around for them to grow up and stop this foolishness.
And what a huge loss. What a huge fucking loss.
The absolute best part is that, even if you caved into their stupid demands, they’d still complain, “Why aren’t you doing fan art any more? no one wants to see your original characters!” and other bullshit.
There’s no appeasing these fucking fools who sit and try to dictate how you should live your life, because it’s not that they are upset you are doing something, they are upset you are a WOMAN doing something.
You are 100% right, the reason that when I was in grade school classes talked about art and poems and stuff of people from long ago is because they were made by men and they are considered valid. The reason that women throughout time have sat down and used a pseudonym on their work is so that people would think they were men, so that their work would be taken seriously.
It’s all a stupid world, a world built by old white men who are afraid of people doing what they want, doing what they like, having fun, because they don’t understand it, because they are sexist or homophobic or whatever, they are afraid; They have power as long as you bend to their will and don’t do what you want, don’t enjoy your life, so screw them, scare them, do what you want and have fun doing it!
