Is Tom Cruise also in VC fandom?

Not that I know of but I consider him an honorary member, he read the first 4 books to prepare for the role and at one point was interested in playing Lestat again. He has only ever spoken highly of Lestat ❤

image

I’d love for him to be involved in the next adaptation in whatever capacity; I’d love him to play Lestat’s dad, bc he’s old enough now! Or if he could be a Lestat coach for the next Lestat, that’d be awesome, too.

Can we talk about how almost everyone’s hair in VC is curly? Practically every one has “curls”, I just find it funny.

Don’t you know tho? The Dark Gift comes with a free perm….

image

… there’s also the humidity to consider, NOLA is a pretty humid place, other VC locations might also be humid.

I just skimmed TVL, and yes, it looks like there’s a lot of curly-hair references, but having read the entire series, what sticks out more for me are the “round little arms” on the women and children, like, WHAT OTHER SHAPE would they be? “square little arms” “trapezoid little arms”…?

Hello, I really love IWTV(1994), and I’ve heard that there would be a kissing scene between Lestat and Louis, but Brat Pitt rejected it. So I just wonder is it true? (Sorry for my poor English since it is not my first language)

I haven’t heard about that at all, it’s possible! Let’s hope we get enough kissing in the upcoming adaptation to make up for the lack of L/L smooches in movie!IWTV <333

image

Idk, tho, Brad was willing to kiss an actual child, I feel like that’s more taboo than kissing an adult man. Knowing the kind of roles he’s had in his career I don’t think he would have refused to kiss a man onscreen in 1994.

image

^This was apparently not a “stage kiss,” Kirsten said this was her first kiss with a guy and she apparently hated it; she said it felt like kissing her brother (which really is pretty accurate).

^You might also be thinking of that moment where Louis sort of teases that he’s gonna kiss Armand but he doesn’t actually do it.

Lestat, if Nicolas was still alive and not insane, will you choose him to be your forever companion instead of Louis?

♛*sighs heavily* How can you ask such a thing? I’ll pretend you didn’t just call my former lover “insane,” and I’ll pretend you didn’t just suggest that Louis could so easily be cast aside, like some used piece of chewing gum. I mean, yes, while being hopelessly devoted to him, I admit I have my flings with others, but he’s the one… he knows how much he means to me.

image

What Nicolas and I shared – it’s over. Long over. Just scar tissue now. Can never be rekindled. We were something, everything, to each other once. He made it absolutely clear in what ended up being our last meeting that he wanted nothing to do with me, that I had failed him in so many ways. Perhaps he was right. I would have gone back for him, I asked if I should go back for him, he didn’t want me.

And you know what? He failed me, too. He led me to believe that he wanted to succeed in Paris, but every success we had was secretly a thorn in his side, and he was riddled with wounds before we were ever separated.

I failed him. But I have to believe that I helped him get some joy out of life in our brief time together, because he taught me what love could be. I have to believe that wasn’t a one-sided thing.

I gave him what I could. I’ve closed those chapters.

Hi every one :’B have you ever taught about the similar story between Marius/Armand, and Leonardo Davinci /Salai. Both painters, both armand and salai have a similar behavior… “Salai” means devil… and Armand is… well you how lovely he is <3 I think, maybe… Anne took this like and example to write the story … Anyone who shares this?

I don’t know the story of Leonardo Davinci /Salai! It’s possible AR was inspired by it, I haven’t seen her mention Salai… Did they do this kind of cute stuff?

[^X by @unionthesalmon, reblog from the X or the source!]

Did AR ever give a reason as to why they were no longer interested in making a VC film? I assume she didn’t like the direction the studio/director wanted to take the film.

Nope! Not that I’ve been made aware of. AR didn’t give us a reason why Universal was no longer involved. She just announced to us 11/26/16 that she had the rights back [X] and was developing a VC TV series. So I would assume that Universal rights expired, and they didn’t choose to renew. AR might have raised the renewal cost, too.

image

I hope we do get the backstory on that someday, but my guess is we never will. Probably the same kind of development hell that happened w/ movie!IWTV from ‘94, the rights were jostled around for almost 20 yrs bc, from what I understand:

  • the material was/is very difficult to adapt with all the problematic and taboo stuff in it.*
  • the filmmakers wanted to please the VC fans, but they also wanted to make something that people who had not read the books would want to go see! That’s probably one of the reasons for Banderas!Armand, btw. I’m sure the filmmakers had to choose between satisfying the VC fans and reducing the taboo stuff enough to make it more palatable for non-VC fans (Louis, an adult vampire, being seduced by a teenage-looking vampire, might have been too much to ask for in 1994 it might still be too taboo now).
  • casting was tough, several first choice actors declined.

*@moral-cipher and I were talking about this, and the way ppl criticize canon, and that’s fine, I encourage it! But it is a very problematic series and just about every character is dysfunctional, every character has suffered or has caused suffering in others. The new motto for VC fandom might as well be:

~VC: If you’re looking for a perfect cinnamon roll, you’ve come to the wrong fandom.~

Hello, sorry to bother you if you’ve seen this before, but I just found Botticelli’s Portrait of a Young Man for the first time, and his expression reminds me of Armand even more than the angel paintings! Maybe how Armand stares and stares at people lol. Hope you have a nice day!

My day was very good, thank u! Hope yours was/is, too.

I looked for the painting and I found 3, there are probably even more than that… thanks for pointing these out to me, I hadn’t seen them before, I can definitely see some Armand in each of them.

In all of them I see the “spun amber” hair thing, as David Talbot being a borderline perv including touching him w/o asking first describes Armand in TVA:

“Your hair’s like something spun from amber, as if the amber would melt and could
be drawn from candle flames in long fine airy threads and let to dry that way to make
all these shining tresses. You’re sweet, boylike and pretty as a girl. I wish I had one
glimpse of you in antique velvet the way you were for him, for Marius. I wish I could
see for one moment how it was when you dressed in stockings and wore a belted
doublet sewn with rubies. Look at you, the frosty child. My love doesn’t even touch
you.”

Apply that description to these:

image

^Portrait of a young man holding a medallion. Altho this one doesn’t resemble Armand to me, it reminded me of his painting the ikons in the caves. “Yeah this took me maybe a half hour… commissions are closed.” Bonus points for the subtle trompe-l’œil effect of his finger sort of out of the frame like that.

image

^Portrait of a Young Man 3. This is more physically Armand to me, and of the attitude of Armand, who has perfected the very difficult to achieve front-facing side-eye expression. He’s also throwing a gang sign, is that a W for west coast or an E for east coast? Armand is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.

image

^Portrait of a Young Man. This one has awesome hair, all swirled like that. You might call this portrait boring at first glance but if you give it more of a chance, it has a haunting effect. Is he leaning forward a little? It seems like it. This is more of the coven master face to me than the other two. “If there were a leader… I would be the one.”

Hello! Do you recall if there is ever any reason given on why Mael didn’t survive the sun stunt although Armand, who is much much younger did? If Anne ever explained it I didn’t catch it. I love your blog by the way and you seem to be a lovely person <3

Y’know, I don’t think it was ever explained in canon! We’ve had a few Mael RPers over the years who might have have a good answer for you… @thevampiremael, @maelgallia come to mind. Other RPers, or anyone else, are welcome to comment/reblog w/ ideas on this.

image

[^X Brock O’Hurn bc of reasons *swoon*]

Mael had been turned (pretty soon after Marius was turned) by Avicus, another God of the Wood who had survived the Great Fire. Even if Avicus had done a bad job turning him or had recently turned other fledglings, that shouldn’t have been a factor in Mael’s vulnerability to sunlight so many years later, since Mael was old enough to have earned some durability on his own. The only answer I can think of rn is that Mael’s combusted remains were further destroyed by frightened mortals who saw it happen? Idk! It’s an answer I’d like to have.

I love your blog by the way and you seem to be a lovely person ❤

Awww thank u for the blargh love and comment about me, that’s very sweet of you! ^_____^

I saw your recent post about Claudia’s murder of Lestat so I rewatched that scene on youtube. I had totally forgotten most of the details and wow. People bash Tom Cruise (for some pretty valid reasons), but everthing about his reaction and his words and expression was so perfect. They really captured that moment. Poor Lestat, I think because he was so happy he turned blind/naive in that moment when he asks Claudia if shes forgiven him and doesn’t think twice when she says yes. Claudia was being

(2/2) so cruel because she KNEW being really kind to him for once would make him the most vulnerable so she could kill him. And if that’s not evil I don’t know what is.

It’s one of the best scenes in the movie! And one of the most heartbreaking ;A;

“When Claudia starts her assassination plot by bringing him a human gift, Cruise’s eyes show Lestat’s surprise that someone has finally done something nice for him for the first time in the film…

In that moment, we realize that while Lestat is capable of love, he’s never been loved back.” – Amy Nicholson, Tom Cruise: Anatomy of an Actor

You are preaching to the choir re: Tom’s Lestat 😉 He may not have LOOKED 100% like Lestat but I thought his performance really captured the essence of the character. I think Kirsten took a lot of her acting cues from his Lestat, too. They were so well-matched that it was easy to believe that they were “father” and “daughter”; she seemed like a little girl version of him, inheriting more of his cruelty than his kindness, but definitely taking on both ❤

She really did lead him to believe that they had forgiven each other, and doing that one nice thing for him, to a person as starved for affection as he was… she knew it would kindle his hope for reconciliation, she KNEW that would make him the most vulnerable and YES that is pretty elite evil *cries*
