So Lestat had Mojo. What animals do you see the other vampire’s gravitating to?

Louis@merciful-death’s Louis has a black cat named Harriet (#headcanon accepted!). She leaves him dead mice often, and according to Lestat (@devilsfool): “She hunts them to try to feed you. She’s convinced that you are a terrible hunter.”

image

[^X]

Harriet’s first snow! Harriet was a fierce and successful huntress from an early age, trying her best to keep Louis fed ❤

[^X]

I also see Louis as being visited frequently by a big stray tomcat, and Lestat doesn’t approve of this one either bc MORE CAT HAIR ON VELVET FURNITURE. Velvet is very cat-hair-ophillic. This cat doesn’t have a name but Louis calls him by a lot of baby names (”Mon chou,” “Sir Fluff,” “Kitten,”) and Lestat calls him by a lot of rude names (”Hairball,” “Trashface,” “Loaf”). This cat actually followed Harriet to their home one night, and he likes to nap with her when she allows it.

Lestat – I know you didn’t ask about Lestat but I have to include him a little more! According to @annabellioncourt, “Lestat was also a canon dog person, and while there are people who love both (hi) I think with Lestat’s constant need for validation he’d be a total dog person.

Like no cats at all.

He hissed back at Louis’s cat once.

Lestat almost always has a dog, and he has meticulous memory of all the dogs he ever had.“

^#headcanon accepted.

Daniel – Lizards! Frogs! Snakes! Reptiles in general. Also insects. He has a big pinned collection, featuring gorgeous butterflies and buprestidae. Lestat loves this collection and goes to reptile houses with Daniel on occasion. They both love cobras.

Armand – I can’t find the canon evidence but I’m pretty sure he had big fancy aquariums on Night Island.

[X] Armand is truly fascinated with owls, owls are totes his spirit animal, deceptively powerful in their small size. Their symbolism for intelligence and careful planning. And y’know, they’re basically "flying pillows filled with seething hatred.” like Armand!

Hit the jump for a bit more.

Marius had taxidermied animals: “giant stuffed beasts mounted in lifelike attitudes – the brown bear, the lion, the tiger, even the elephant standing in his own immense chamber, lizards as big as dragons, birds of prey clutching dried branches made to look like the limbs of real trees.” -TVL

Marius also had a “giant aquarium, the great room-sized tank” filled w/ “rare and beautiful tropical fish” and caged birds. – QOTD

Claudia loved birds, especially small ones. She likes songbirds especially. She also loved rabbits but more for their fur than their personality.

If I knew how nice Lestat was to people that had nightmares about him, maybe he wouldn’t have plagued so many nights of my childhood (I saw IWTV when I was around seven with my sis, waay to early for some scenes) :D

Awww, I’m sure it wasn’t his intention to be your nightmare material! He’s very apologetic, both to you, and to anyone else he’s frightened. He says Tom’s portrayal was actually much kinder than the truth and he’s grateful certain things were toned down or left out entirely.

image

He’s not responding to this message directly himself bc he’s feeling a little defensive about it. Lestat takes issue w/ the adults who let you watch that movie at such a young age, like the adults who made him go on that fun field trip to the witches’ place where innocent people were burned to death. Adults sometimes don’t get how impressionable children are, or they don’t care. Lestat’s guilty of terrifying his own fledglings, but there was usually a good reason for it. Like knocking some sense into them!

Lestat’s also reminding me that Louis told that story to Daniel, who was an adult (at least legally) at the time, and Louis intended that story to get to Lestat, to provoke him and raise him from wherever he was hiding. It was intended to portray Lestat as both a sweet dream and a beautiful nightmare, anything less might not have pissed him off enough to resurrect him ;]

When I was a kid, I sought out scary stories, bc even though I got nightmares from them, the stories themselves gave me a path through the terror and provided the catharsis of the resolution at the end. Even if it was an unhappy ending, the book/movie ended, and the monster had no more story to tell. It was empowering for me, and I think the way I see monsters like Lestat (bc he IS a monster, let’s not forget that) now is through radical empathy, asking again and again what made him as nasty as he was in IWTV? So many things. Knowing where that kind of behavior comes from is insightful and can give you the keys to dealing with difficult ppl in real life, bc they are EVERYWHERE and they come in endless variations!

Hello, you have or know, a timeline of the Vampire Chronicles that ends in the last book (Prince Lestat)?thank you very much.

I have never found a perfect VC timeline, I should make one myself… I don’t know of one that ends in PL (including or not including PL).

  • This one goes through Merrick, you should save it for your own ref bc that site could go down anytime. The author of it also chose some dates that I don’t think have canon evidence (March 2, 1791 is the date indicated that Louis meets Lestat,
  • Here’s another one, goes through TVA.
  • This one is fun bc it’s interactive.

Gawd that would be a project. Anyone want to try to tackle this? Would be much appreciated! I might even offer some kind of reward…

Do you know when or if or where the Anne Rice Fan Club’s ball will be this year? OR what its called?

It gets a different name every year, this year it’s “Midnight in the Savage Garden of Blood and Evil Halloween Ball.” I’ve never been to one myself, but apparently they are alot of fun, and lots of ppl dress up and/or cosplay as the characters!

It’s in New Orleans, LA, USA (almost always there, not sure if it has been held elsewhere) on 10/28/16.

It’s run by the Anne Rice Vampire Lestat Fan Club (main site, FB page) and it looks like they’re also trying to do “a pure New Orleans night out in the Lafayette Cemetery on Thursday night Oct. 27th to benefit Save Our Cemeteries…” so there’s that, too.

Looks like there will be an actual official Lestat, walking around Mastering the Ceremonies!

HEYYYYY MY DEAR I have a question. Do Louis and Lestat ever put makeup on eachother? And if they do, who prefers what style of makeup? (Like Lestat likes a winged eyeliner on Louis etc)

Yes, definitely! Lestat wears makeup often, typically at least guyliner (black or dark blue) and a lightweight (as in, not too “gluey”), organic lipgloss, with a rosy tint. Neither of them typically wear makeup that’s very scented or flavored, since they find those pretty chemically distasteful.

It’s canon that Lestat wears violet shades much of the time, which are not opaque, tinted just enough to diffuse a little of the dazzling effect of his eye color but allow the artistry of his makeup to be visible.

Louis will not put on makeup unless Lestat requests it, but does admit that it gives him an otherworldly quality. He prefers a light smokey eye and a hint of blush.

Despite his strenuous efforts to improve, Lestat is not as talented at drawing winged eyeliner, so whenever he wants that look he has to ask Louis to do it for him. Lestat also really enjoys playing w/ metallic powders [X]:

image

Sometimes Lestat will see a look in a work of art, magazine, or movie, and he wants to try it out on himself or Louis. He’s copied several of David Bowie’s looks. Some nights they both get all glamorous in order to better entice victims (murderous transphobic/homophobic bigots are a favorite dinner).

image

Louis’ first makeover was done by Claudia (fanart by @obsessional-ram!), and he resisted at first, but it was a battle he couldn’t hope to win as she pushed him down to her level and began applying foundation and eyeshadow primer. She went for an orchid-inspired look, w/ pastel shades and then deepened the contrast with his eyes with teal green and gold eyeshadow colors, a cool-toned smokey overlay, mascara, and warm lavender blush. A deep berry lip tint completed the look.

She also braided tiny light-colored flowers into his hair, and put him in one of the maid’s dresses.

When Lestat came out of the bath, where he had been for about an hour, he was struck by the enhancements and made some mumbled excuse as to why he needed Louis’ attention immediately… and privately. Claudia was very proud of herself for producing such a positive reaction, even though on the surface she kicked and complained at being thrown out of the house on an obviously unnecessary errand “Go get us more… ah… matches! From across town!”

The very next night, Lestat had her try out bold eyeshadows and powders on himself ;D

In canon, Lestat wears makeup at least for camouflage:

“I covered up my blue eyes, as always, with black glasses, lest their radiance mesmerize and entrance at random – a real nuisance – and over my delicate white hands, with their telltale glassy fingernails, I drew the usual pair of soft gray leather gloves.”  – Tale of the Body Thief

“Ah, a bit of oily brown camouflage for the skin. I smoothed the lotion over my cheekbones, over the bit of neck and chest that was bare.”

Tale of the Body Thief

I had a nightmare were Lestat kept trying to kill me along with like 50+ vampires. But Louis saved me. It was scary.

Désolé, mon cher, I would prefer to have the spotlight in your pleasurable dreams. Are you certain I was aiming for you? Perhaps there was someone behind you who deserved my wrath? I’ll tuck you into bed properly tonight.

Oh, and I don’t need such an army. I can usually handle these heated debates on my own. Well, to be a little more honest, gathering up such an army and getting them to fight together is an enormously taxing feat of production. Like herding cats. So perhaps it was some other gorgeous blond but incredibly weak vampire you saw, who would require such an entourage *winks*

Louis is truly an angel, is he not? *sighs dreamily* He’s saved me from terrible things, too. Mostly from myself.

…Perhaps that’s why I didn’t try to contact him before my… business trip to the Gobi desert. I didn’t want him to save me then, and I’m sure he would have tried his best to do so.

Hey there! I’m in NOLA for the weekend and was curious if you knew any good landmarks to visit in relation to our beloved books. I’m on mobile so I can’t search, sorry if this has been asked!

I do! I’m actually planning on making a better post about it, but for now, since I’m on mobile, all I can give you is:

Gallier House is the flat AR modeled the Rue Royale home of Louis, Lestat, and Claudia. It’s a historic location and they give tours there. Take one! See the Master bedroom! See Claudia’s room!

AR used to live in the garden district. 1239 First St. There is a little plaque about her there now.

Near AR’s garden dist. home is Lafayette Cemetary No. 1. There was a scene or two in IWTV that took place there, but it closes at sunset.

In movie!IWTV, Lestat watches Claudia kill someone right near the Cabildo in Jackson Square.

I think Louis kills a priest in book!IWTV in the St. Louis cathedral in Jackson Square.

Pointe du Lac plantation was based on Oak Alley plantation. They give tours there. Movie!IWTV was filmed there, too. Destreham plantation was also in movie!IWTV for Pointe du Lac plantation.

After seeing your lovely drawing of lestat and louis I just had to watch the film and well it was amazing and I’m reading the books now, so thank you for helping me discover something awesome!

flurgburgler:

This is best!!! I’m so glad you liked it! The whole book series is straight up fabulous, and Anne Rice who writes them is such a sassy lady! Yikes I’m just so excited because I literally haven’t fan-girled over the Vampire Chronicles for YEARS.

[X]

Hey so I really want to make VC fanart. Does Anne Rice still do legal things when she finds out? I know that all happened a while ago (wayyyyyy before my time in being in fandoms) and I know there is fanart and fanfic out there but I am still paranoid.

image
image

^This is a legit screencap from her FB page, I just added the highlight. For the record, AR loves fanart, so keep it coming! ☆° 。:.゚ヽ(´∀`。)ノ゚.:。+゚ ☆

As for the fanfic, here’s my long post on it, with a bunch of her statements about it, but basically, she ignores fanfic:

“I got upset about 20 years ago because I thought it would block me,” she says. “However, it’s been very easy to avoid reading any, so live and let live.

If I were a young writer, I’d want to own my own ideas. But maybe fan fiction is a transitional phase: whatever gets you there, gets you there.” – Anne Rice, Nov. 2012.

Still, her POTP occasionally bring things to her attention needlessly (like this blog post about someone’s bad experience in VC RP), with overly polite language like, “Anne, I hope that you’re aware that…” trying to provoke a response out of her. She still has rights and a lot more money than we do, so it’s important that we respect her.

fandoms you’re in now?

Confession time: I don’t consider myself really ~in~ any other fandom. Just Vampire Chronicles.

[^X]

Here’s some of the other fandoms I like to watch from a distance. I put an * on ones I guess I might qualify to be in, and/or that I feel obligated to watch/read when I see them. I think what I like best about other fandoms is finding more excellent fanartists and shipping discourse.

[Oh! Just remembered, you might want to check out my huge recc list]

I don’t think I have enough depth of knowledge* of other media to consider myself a real part of their fandoms, but I like other media, obviously, and I sometimes reblog it here under #Not VC along with other Not VC things. #VC Adjacent is for things that are evocative of a VC feel, even if only in the remotest way!

Admittedly, my standards are VERY high re: “depth of knowledge,” but the amount I do know about others might qualify me as being considered “in” some other fandoms. What even qualifies you to be IN a fandom? Just liking a thing? Or having headcanons about it? Enjoying discourse about it? IDK.
