Am I the only one who saw Lestat, Louis, and Claudia in that “One Unfulfilled Idea of Family” in Hannibal, Will, and Abigail? Or am I just one of those helpless cases of VCians who can easily find reference to VC just anywhere and everywhere? 0_o

It’s definitely not just you. I know I’ve talked to adirotynd and wicked-felina about this very phenomenon. There’s a hell of a lot of common ground between the VC and Hannibal: perverse yet more-intense-than-anything-ever intimacy based on mutual experience of (committing) violence; heightened sensuality; a fine line between black comedy and high-flown philosophy… and then of course Hannibal is in itself a fanfic-like remix of the Thomas Harris canon, which is interesting to look at, considering the fanon that has grown up around the VC over the years.

I was surprised-yet-not-surprised when I found out that Bryan Fuller was a huge IWTV fan growing up – there’s a Nerdist podcast in which he describes how, at the age of 13, he phoned Anne Rice because he wanted to work on the IWTV screenplay. The story is a gem and starts about 32 minutes in, but the whole thing is really great:

Edit: basically what I’m saying is, if you’re a VC fan who can handle looking at gore, there is a very good chance that Hannibal will be right up your street. Meanwhile, if you are a Hannibal fan who enjoys historical settings and can cope with a canon that gets increasingly bizarre as the series progresses, you might find a happy home in VC fandom. Hey, I like to matchmake.

I’ve been on the internet for 19 years, since I was 15 years old.  I find it HILARIOUS that the teenagers think they discovered the net and it’s only for them and that it’s weird that adults use it too.  I mean, when i first got on the net there were grown ass men and women in the fandom.  People with kids and mortgages and jobs.  I never thought it was odd.  There were one or two creeps, but generally they were super nice people who I became an extended child to. They were people I could ask awkward questions that I couldn’t ask my parents.  They were the older siblings I needed.  The ones that said, “Don’t date that guy, he sounds like he’s abusive” and “don’t kill yourself, I know you’re really feeling alone right now but it’ll get better” and “don’t change yourself for that guy, he’s not worth it. He’s a moron” and “I think maybe it’s time to ask your parents to take you to a counselor”

But hey, if you think it’s creepy that I exist, don’t follow me.  I’m a 34 year old woman and I’m only getting older.  But if you need someone to ask weird and embarrassing things, like what it’s like how to brown meat or how to look for an apartment or short cuts to getting unsightly dirt rings off your bathtub or you need someone to look over your art portfolio or what it’s like to have an IUD or get a breast reduction I’m your adult.  I’ll be your big sister. Because God knows *I* needed someone to be mine when I was your age.

#I think the hard thing is that when many of us were the young ones in intergenerational spaces we looked up to older people#and now when we see the ‘ew grow ups on the internet go away!!’ thing it’s like#shit#how did we miss our window?#but the truth is fandom grow ups built shit like ao3 and dreamwidth#and fandom grow ups were so helpful to me when I was a flaily teenager and college student and young adult#and it’s hard to see people talking like nobody over 21 belongs in fandom or even exists#which is crazy when most of the best writers I know are definitely at least that age or older#writing skills usually get better with time!#anyhow this all ties into fandom having lost touch with its own history#from the adults who started cons#to the adults who converted this new internet technology into a place for fandom#so if you aren’t aware that fandom has always been intergenerational and until the last decade mostly composed of adults#that’s a sad failure of our community

I see you hiding your thoughtful meta in your tags, sophia-helix, and I drag them out into the light.

i told my sister the way i draw lestat’s nose looks kinda like lana del rey’s and

like seriously AU where everything is the same but Lestat became a singer in 2011 with sadcore indie pop instead of 80s rock and all the vampires were bitching about him waking up Akasha with his “weepy hipster crap”

“this is my body/this is my blood” LESTAT U CANS NOT JUST USE BIBLE TEXT AS LYRICS. It’s copyright infringement, surely.

“I would like to draw everyone’s attention to the work of the lovely and talented sheepskeleton. Not only is she a wonderful artist, she’s curious, sweet and delightfully bright as well. Seeing her art crop up on my dash is always a gift.”

YOU DESERVE IT, YOU SHINING THING, YOU!

Well, know that I’d been following your VC blog before I decided to return to tumblr this year. And apart from all these wonderful things you do for this Fandom (Us, People off the Page), what I so much love about this blog is your absolutely fantastic sense of humour with which you approach the VC!!! Happy Birthday, You Creature of Wonder!

!ohmahfrickittyfrackettyharpsichords, I’m so touched, you hit me Right in the Feels in such a very good way! *attack hugs*

It continues to be mutually beneficial, as I have had to learn how to do new things in order to do them for THIS BLOG, like making gifs, and it’s also made me question my own ideas about the characters, and get to know all these people I never would have interacted with if not for our fandom, and so much more <3<3<3 Dare I say that it’s a huge part of my life? That’s probably obvious ^_______^

WAYYYYY back when I started this thing, I was afraid that I was offending our fandom with my sense of humor, as can be seen in one of my early memeythings:

image

Yeah, it is applicable to her situation gdi Claudia stop eating all your handlers or so help me but it was also my concern whether anyone thought I was being just offensive and not funny at all… clearly the People Off the Page (I love that you used my word for us, too, btw) convinced me that they really enjoy my brand of silly and now I go alot farther, still with the intention of keeping it tasteful (PUN INTENDED):

(Sometimes when I get an idea for one of these things I actually make myself laugh just thinking about it until I can get home to make it)

I feel like Only Lovers Left Alive is how Lestat and his coven like to think of themselves but in reality they’re What We Do in the Shadows.
