Hey bud! I’m working on a Lestat cosplay rn, could you help me with ref pics? I especially need pics of his different shoes/boots and pants šŸ’™

Bonjour~ You came to the right place…

image

…but there aren’t many shots of his shoes or boots, really šŸ˜› Not just to conceal the added heel height! There’s just more action going on in the face area ;]

Here’s a pic of one whole costume, w/ I think, the shoes that went w/ it (thumbnail below, check out the link for larger image).

image

He wears a bunch of outfits so I’m not sure which one you’re aiming for, but here’s a good post with several of them.

image

^Blurry combo gif is blurry but you can see his pants are generally just dark blue or black, to let the top half of his outfit be big and flashy. Tight pants would probably be best. Middle gif shows tight velvet leggings and knee high boots w/ what looks like a 2 inch heel:

image

Similar boots below, but they have a cuff, and different pants, these have button detailing (not sure how high those buttons go):

Bonsoir belle Burnadette, I saw the movie “Rock of Ages” for the first time and my one and only thought was as Tom performed “Pour some sugar on me”: YES! If he had his blonde Lestat wig, then he would be a perfect Lestat on his Rock-Concert!” Am I the only one who think that Tom Cruise still would rock as Lestat for other movies? Unfortunately he is to old to play Lestat … By the way, the poledance scene was great too! I think Lestat would do this for Louis >D Preview of this on my page ~

Bonsoir lovely ppl! Your cosplays are FAB-U-LOUS.

Re: *~Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages = Mortal Brunette Tattooed Lestat AU~* of course I agree w/ u completely. When the trailers came out you could have almost heard the collective squeeing of most of the VC fandom.Ā

[fanart by LilithMF]

His singing was actually quite good, according to IMDB he rehearsed for five hours every day to get his voice ready for his rock performances. IMDB doesn’t say so but I think he actually did get to meet with rock stars and learn from the best re: stage presence. I think he nailed it!

image

More than just the look, the stage presence, the singing, and the dancing, which is already alot! was the depth that Tom brought to the role. He’s an aging rockstar, but dissatisfied with everything that money can buy. He has all this cheap affection thrown at him and he goes through the motions with his groupies but he lacks any real connections with anyone. He’s only really alive on stage. Somewhat dead inside and he knows it, so he drinks to try to kill those feelings (very Louis-esque).

image

Jaxx is totally self-aware under the performance, performing all the time. Ppl expect him to be bad, so he acts like it. He’s still there inside the shell, though. It’s all very Lestatuesque and the reason I didn’t add it to my recent VC-Adjacent movie & book rec list is bc I limited myself to non-TC movies as a challenge and he’s gonna have his own list here when I get around to it!

image

He definitely poledances for Louis like c’mon. #headcanon accepted.

image

^And he sometimes pretends to be very bad at it at first but he’s actually extraordinary and has his audience drooling whenever he wants!

Tom may be too old to play Lestat again physically but he can still be hired as the Lestatuesque coach, which was sorely needed in movie!QOTD. Could have vastly improved that movie. OR he could play the Marquis de Lioncourt, Lestat’s father!

… or he could do the voice in an animated adaptation you can pry that wish from my cold dead hands.

…More Stacee Jaxx in #mortal brunette tattooed Lestat AU*

(*which I also tagged as such but not consistently so just look at #stacee jaxx)

–> Also, I found a Stacee Jaxx RPer and they have alot of good stuff in their archive, check them out: @rocksloneliestcowboy ā¤

I absolutely love your blog! I’ve gone through all the VC cannon and so many of the wonderful fanworks, but now I’m having withdrawals! Is it strange that my solution is to watch Rise of the Guardians? I mean, Jack Frost IS a cheeky undead optimist who’s trying to find his purpose in the world :P My real question is, are there any Lestatesque/VC-esque books or movies you’d recommend? I agree that OLLA and What We Do in the Shadows are fantastic >:D

Merci beaucoup, glad you like this thing! You want more?

image

You do, I see >:}

I’d agree w/ you about Jack Frost, he’s forced into his immortal status by accident, too, and he’s orphaned and has to figure out what to do w/ himself, too. Jack and Lestat are definitely both

cheeky undead optimists! And yes, OLLA and What We Do in the Shadows are fantastic, that’s for sure! Those movies were very much the VC movie we had been waiting for, with different facets of VC-adjacentness. OLLA more for the aesthetic and WWDITS more for the comedy.

I don’t think that any ONE movie or book (or book series) has all the ingredients that make up that unique VC flavor but there are many that are adjacent. I knew this was going to end up being a masterpost, that’s why it took so long. Also I restrained myself from any Tom Cruise movies. He should have his own masterpost ;D

*cracks knuckles* Okayyy… SO,Ā

VC-Adjacent is more doable than Lestatuesque, bc everyone’s headcanon of Lestat varies and we all know how attached I am to Tom Cruise So I’ll give you one Lestatuesque rec and the rest are VC-Adjacent.

Lestatuesque:Ā

Blade Runner (1982) – this movie is mentioned in canon (QOTD). AR had wanted to cast Rutger Hauer as Lestat. But he was too old when they finally got IWTV into production D: so watch this and see her vision for Lestat.

Over and over [Armand] watched Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner, fascinated by Rutger Hauer, the powerfully built actor who, as the leader of the rebel androids, confronts his human maker, kisses him, and then crushes his skull. It would bring a slow and almost impish laugh from Armand, the bonesĀ cracking, the look in Hauer’s ice-cold blue eye.

ā€œThat’s your friend, Lestat, there,ā€ Armand whispered once to Daniel. ā€œLestat would have the… how do you say?… guts?… to do that!ā€

In no particular order*Ā

(and @annabellioncourt helped me out here, so wherever there’s an *, those are her recs that I agreed with)(and there are other movies I love obviously, but I tried to limit this list to VC-Adjacent only; and I couldn’t think of any of my fave books that come close enough to fit in here).

Vampire movies:

  • *Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992) – Well this goes w/o saying, and it also shared movie!IWTV’s Michele Burke as head of the makeup dept ;D
  • The Lost Boys (1987) – @skeletalroses is kind of my authority on this one, and >>>this movie is cited as a major inspiration for WWDITS.<<<
  • What We Do in the Shadows (2014)- Including it on here bc of reasons, this is a very classy documentary of several vampires flatting together in New Zealand as a big coven ball approaches.
  • Only Lovers Left Alive (2013) – Including it on here bc of reasons, this is a very classy film of several vampires visiting together in Detroit, Michigan, and Tangiers, Morocco, as the world is slowly taken over by theĀ ā€œzombiesā€ (not actual ones, metaphoric ones). And there are alot of parallels between the married couple and Claudia Ava, who is thirsty all the time and above the law bc of course she is.
  • Shadow of the Vampire (2000) – It’s a behind-the-scenes fanfic of the filming of the legendary Nosferatu! Mostly horror w/ a dash of comedy. Bonus: Eddie Izzard.
  • Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) – Yeah I love Leslie Nielsen, fight me. It’s a Dracula parody. This will never not be funny.
  • Jennifer’s Body (2009) – well she’s not really a vampire but she eats ppl, so close enough. I love the dynamic between Jennifer and her best friend, how you’re not sure whether Jennifer wants to bring her into this, or just terrify her, but there is something kind of Akasha-esque about this creature.
  • Let the Right One In (2008) – the original is better than the US remake (Let Me In, 2010) but they’re both worth watching. Child vampire! Choosing a new BFF! She has to respect the Being Invited In Rule, tho.
  • The Little Vampire (2000) – a cuter child vampire, w/o much of the angst of being a child vampire, overall super cute and I had to include this bc of Jack Frost.Ā

Other Horror movies/shows:

  • *Crimson Peak (2015) –Ā @annabellioncourt says: ā€œwould be a fair addition because of the atmosphere of it as well as its campy factorā€
  • Hannibal (2013-2015) – the TV series bc #murder husbands, like c’mon. One pushing the other into being more murdery and the other resisting it. @cloudsinvenice informed us that ā€œBryan Fuller was a huge IWTV fan growing up – there’s a Nerdist podcast in which he describes how, at the age of 13, he phoned Anne Rice because he wanted to work on the IWTV screenplay. The story is a gem and starts about 32 minutes in, but the whole thing is really great.ā€
  • The Walking Dead (2010-current) – my new drug, group dynamics, fighting for supremacy, survival, romance, killing!
  • Sweeney Todd (2007) – It’s pretty goth, it has some comedy, it has murder, it has ppl pining for each other. Also, a musical. My fave is the whole By the Sea song sequence bc Helena is trying so hard!
  • The Witches of Eastwick (1987) – Jack Nicholson is the devil and wants to make his own harem of 3 powerful witches what could possibly go wrong? There is a hilariously awful scene in a church. Jack approaches Lestatuesque levels of charm as he courts these women, and then there’s supernatural stuff going on.Ā
  • The Addams Family (1991) – Gomez and Morticia have the kind of ship Lestat would kill for. He would probably dig their aesthetic to some extent, too. Also murderous kids, who are encouraged to be murderous. ONE HAPPY FAMILY.
  • Black Swan (2010) – something about this, maybe the aesthetic, feels very Theatre Des Vampires.
  • Beetlejuice (1988) – Alec Baldwin! Looked like this once upon a time! But mostly, ppl dealing with being dead and not having a very helpful ghost w/ the most trying to help them. When it works for him.
  • Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) – campy, musical, murdery, I still don’t really know what it all really means but it’s fun. Dr. F can be compared to Lestat, in that he’s lusty, charming, glamorous, materialistic, bossy as hell, has a real mean streak, tries to make the perfect lover for himself and fails at it over and over… an essay could be written comparing them. @laurasking is my authority on RHPS.

Other movies/shows:

  • Phenomenon (1996) – Telekinesis and someone dealing w/ acquiring it, and how his community treats him bc of it. THIS IS CUTE so like, yeah, much further away, I almost didn’t include it. Gonna lose my reputation over this rec OH WELL it’s your fault, Anon, bc Jack Frost.

Anime – recc’d by my best friend:

  • Vampire Princess Miyu – ā€œsimilar atmosphere"Ā
  • Witch Hunter Robin – ā€œquite gothicā€
  • Otogizoushi – ā€œvery atmospheric"Ā

Annbellioncourt’s Recs bc she is classier than me:

  • Byzantium (2012) – Neil Jordan’s first vampire movie since IWTV
  • Wolfman (2010) – ā€œits cheesey, but its atmospheric, spooky, and bloodyā€
  • The Hunger (1983) – ā€œis one I always suggest to people wanting moreā€
  • The Bloody Chamber And Other Stories –Ā Angela Carter
  • CarmillaĀ – Bunch of adaptations of this.
  • A Taste of Blood Wine –Ā

    Freda Warrinton

  • Blood Opera Sequence –Ā

    Tanith Lee

  • Historian – Elizabeth Kostova

  • Fevre Dream (yes its spelled fevre) by George R. R. Martin (yes, its THAT Martin, and his take on vampires is Very Good.)
  • Sunshine by Robin McKinley
  • The Delicate Dependency by Michael Talbot
  • The Hunger by Whitley Scriber

Voice of Louis – or, ā€œI’ve had to listen to that, for centuries.ā€

@annabellioncourt had cited the following as similar to Louis’ voiceĀ in IWTV:

  • ā€œOscar Wilde’s era of the very late 19th century, which is what most people think of today when they think ā€œVictorian writing.ā€

ā€œSimilar in voice (though not subject) would also be:

  • Matthew Arnold (read some of his essays, and tell me that’s not how Louis talks),
  • Wilkie Collins
  • Henry James

Anyone can feel free to comment or reblog this with their own recs *u*

I’m not sure if you’ve talked about Only Lovers Left Alive, but how well do you think Lestat would get along with the characters from that movie. I feel like he’d have a soft spot for Adam (a musician) and Eve (an intellectual), but would maybe have mixed feelings for Ava who is a little reckless.

I looooooved Only Lovers Left Alive! So many similarities to VC, I could write a thesis on it, but those characters were also beautiful in their own story. So many questions about them! I want the backstory on all of them. WHAT HAPPENED IN PARIS 87 YRS AGO?

image

^Bad things happen in Paris in VC, too ;A;

But look at these cuties awwww… Ā the OLLA vampires’ personalities are totally compatible w/ VC, they seem to be characters first and the vampiring is secondary.

image

The OLLA vampires have different physiological rules from the Ricean vampires, and those rules dictated how they live. For one thing, Adam and Eve have arrangements w/ mortal agents to get clean blood rather than risk taking victims, whose blood could be tainted w/ modern disease or drugs, which OLLA vampires are vulnerable to. So no funtimes hunting evildoers like Lestat :[ They also don’t seem to need to drink as much blood as Ricean vampires do except for Ava bc she’s Claudia.

image

OLLA vampires can also stay awake during the day if they want to but are still highly flammable to sunlight, so they can probably pass as mortal somewhat better than Ricean vampires do. Eve has a sensory gift in which she can ā€œreadā€ the history from touching an object!Ā

You asked about Lestat specifically, but Louis and Adam would totally bond over poetry and literature. Lestat and Eve (and/or Ava!) would go out to dive bars and rock out. Ava’s similarity to Claudia would make her an ideal hunting buddy for Lestat, but her recklessness would definitely irk him when he realizes he can’t reign her in. Ava seems as insatiable as Claudia, and even MORE selfish.

As @hyperbeeb put it so well [X]:Ā

I’ve fully just accepted that [the OLLA vampires are] a part of the VC universe but have managed to stay out of the way of the wacky bullshit that affects the rest of the VC characters (probably due to the powers bestowed on Tilda Swinton from being an alien goddess). But maybe one day they run across Louis and Lestat and become so incredibly grateful that they don’t spend time around these other vampires (even if Lestat and Adam talked about music for like 8 hours and Lestat told Louis for days afterwards that Adam was like him except better… but less pretty don’t be offended Louis)

Hit the jump for moar pics and thoughts…

Some more comparisons bc of reasons:

image
image

^Never in the house you naughty girls!

image

^Little sisters to big bro/sis: ā€œWe are going to have S O Ā M U C H funā€Ā

image

^Adam would appeal to Lestat in his similarity to Nicolas, w/ the tortured musician thing and similarity to Louis with his fascinations with things (and he’s a slim brunet w/ a lot of soul like BOTH of them). Adam seems even less interested than Louis in fashion and material possessions, and his home is as disorganized as I would imagine Louis’ would be (Adam has nests of use, w/ items roughly clustered by category). I would hope that Louis takes better care of his stuff, tho. Adam and Louis both considered suicide a very real option but couldn’t do it themselves; fortunately, their loved ones dragged them back from the edge. Nicolas allegedly did suicide in canon, but there is fanon that he’s still undead, kicking around in secret.

image

Eve was definitely like Lestat in her confidence, curiosity for even the smallest things. Fearless, outgoing, very fashionable. Blood popsicles! She also has some positive Marius qualities to her, in that she had been turned a VERY long time ago, and is largely at peace with the way the world changes around her. Lestat would be intrigued by her tactile gift, too.

image

Ava is very Claudia, aged up, more optimistic, her default mood is generally pretty happy, even though it seems like she’s a pro at being kicked out of groups. Her mood can shift quickly, she’s selfish, flashy, silly, impulsive. She might have been turned anywhere from 16-24 yrs old. She even disregards the #No Killing Friends in the House rule! This is probably how Claudia would have been if she had been turned later in life.Ā

Bonus: Adam + Louis eyerolls

image
image

I got a question I’ve had on my mind for a while. When Louis’ wife died (in the movie) do you think afterwards Yvette became his concubine (before his prostitute binge) for a short period of time. Maybe that’s why they seemed so close.

I think that’s a valid theory! I’m not sure I would use the wordĀ ā€œconcubine,ā€ since that would imply that she was coerced into it due to her status on the plantation. My headcanon is that if she was in a relationship w/ him, she was willing, and not coerced into it, based on fanon that she was raised w/ him, and they were always very close and mutually respectful, even though he was her plantation master in title.*Ā

We see little of their interaction in the movie, so it’s impossible to say definitively, but it appears that she was not afraid of him before he was turned, could sense the change in him,Ā and was genuinely concerned about him with more than a servant’s required amount of care.Ā

Unfortunately we can’t talk about Louis/Yvette w/o bringing up the way he ended that relationship – rather badly (and I’m using a little levity in the pic below bc it’s very grim, upsetting, so many other words for how awful it is, but if anyone is offended, I apologize in advance. This is the way I choose to engage w/ the material, so Unfollow if you need to, I understand)

image

After he kills her, Louis carries Yvette out of the house bridal-style, a reversal of the carrying-over-the-threshold tradition that newlywed men do w/ their living wives to signify that she is welcome and a necessary part of their home and life together.Ā

Louis carries Yvette OUT before he burns down the big house, so that she can be returned to her people (and family members, probably) and given the proper religious rites, funeral arrangements, etc. Conversely, he knows he doesn’t deserve any of that since he’s going straight to Hell; he intends to pay for her life (really, taking her life is the worst thing he’s done so far, especially considering their implied ship and the wayĀ he took her life) with his own. He knows that killing an innocent is terrible, even worse that she was someone he loved! He succumbed to desire, fed his vampire nature, and that finally sealed his damnation: ā€œThis place is cursed. Damned! And yes your master is the Devil!ā€

Fun fact: Brad Pitt and Thandie Newton (Yvette) were dating during the filming of IWTV. They are both professionals, but if my boyfriend had to basically act like he metaphorically raped and murdered me, or I had to do the same to him, pretty sure it’d kill the romance somewhat. [X]

Hit the jump for moar, cut for length.

There is some fanon out there that Yvette was raised along with Louis, that they had real history together and cared deeply for each other ā¤ So the idea of them becoming closer than that would make sense. Yvette NOTICED his daytime absence in the fields, and seemed to want him back out there. She seems to genuinely care about him: ā€œAre you still our master at all? You must send away this friend of yours… they’re frightened of him. And they’re frightened of you.ā€ I headcanon that they had a good relationship prior to his turning, maybe the best possible relationship between two ppl of such different stations at that time.

This doesn’t seem like the face of someone required to be concerned for her boss, it seems like the face of a lover or family member, someone very close who senses something is very ā€œoffā€ about Louis, more even than when he was drinking and throwing himself at whores; she wants to help and probably thinks she knows him well enough to be able to talk some sense into him ;A;

image
image

[X]

In movie!IWTV: Louis’ killing of Yvette seems to also be a metaphor for giving in to sexual urges, basically a metaphorical rape in how it’s nonconsensual :[

We see him struggling with it and trying to make Yvette leave him alone, even ordering her to leave:Ā ā€œThat will be all, Yvette.ā€ (which he can barely even say, so consumed w/ hunger)Ā but she deliberately disobeys:Ā ā€œI will not go unless you listen to me!ā€ Again, does not seem like the kind of interaction between a plantation owner and his servant.

He looks like he’s about to receive Holy Communion in the shot above, his eyes closed almost in prayer, he’s probably thinking about everything Lestat’s told him, and How wrong can this be when it seems so right? VERY WRONG.Ā

*So my answer is based on their 100% consensual relationship, but books could be (and have been!) written on the pressures of a slave being coerced into a relationship with the plantation’s owner, and I’m not going there.

Also, on that note, because I can’t remember, what about drugs taken NOT through victim blood? I know they can kind of get drunk if a victim is drunk (in IWTV somewhere) but, like, what about weed? I want the Night Island coven to collectively blaze it. I vaguely remember Louis giving a “no” to this during IWTV but I can’t think for the life of me. I couldn’t find an answer in your physiology tag. Your ask box says “ask the right questions” and these are all the wrong questions im so sorry lol

{2/2} Yes, these are the Right Questions. You know that’s just my reference to the line in the movie, right? Not to be taken as intimidation, Armand may have meant it more like,Ā ā€œAsk the questions that I have good answers for so it will make me look smart and attractive to you.ā€

Yes, they can get drunk off of victim blood!Ā

image

Lestat mentions it first in IWTV: ā€œWine…Both of them had drunk too much wine. I found myself tapping the fence posts with a stick to make a tune,ā€ he laughed. ā€œBut I don’t like it, the dizziness. Do you like it?’ And when he looked at me I had to smile at him because the wine was working in him and he was mellow;… his face looked warm and reasonableā€¦ā€

Okay whatever we know u LOVE it, Lestat.

But they can’t drink it directly from the bottle bc Ricean vampires lose alot of digestive anatomy when they’re turned. So their bodies just can’t metabolize it.

Which is pretty much the case w/ smoking, too. The other obstacle is that they don’t really aspirate. They sigh and huff and whatever for dramatic effect, but they don’t technically BREATHE. But how can they talk, then?? Well SOME air is passing through, but not the amount we mortals need.

I do think Lestat smokes cigarettes just to irritate Louis, and also to satisfy his oral fixation, his need to fidget w/ smtg, and as an excuse to carry a cool lighter around ;D

So as far as the Night Island coven collectively blazing it (this image is making me grin so hard #FANART REQUEST), they can take a victim like Rihanna here, let her do the work and look gorgeous, and then they can pass her around, respectfully. The rule is Bite-Bite-Pass ^,….,^

image

I think you’re thinking of smoking mentioned in movie!IWTV:

Louis: Perhaps you’d like another cigarette?
Daniel: Yeah, I suppose I would. It’s not bothering you, is it?
Louis: No.
Daniel: No, I don’t assume that it would be, I mean, it’s not like you’re gonna die from cancer or anything, is it?
Louis: No, I don’t think so.

In book!IWTV, Louis dispels the myth about vampires transforming into steam (I cut it a bit for length):

Daniel: And what about the rumor about keyholes? That you can … become steam and go through them.
Louis: I wish I could. How positively delightful. I should like to pass through all manner of different keyholes and feel the tickle of their peculiar shapes. No. That is, how would you say today … bullshit?

image

^Bonus: a smoking David from the Lost Boys.

So I have a stupid question that I just thought of but I’m tired from finals and being tired makes me think of weird things and I am curious to see what you think. So we know the vamps /really/ can’t eat food and they should only drink warm blood, but what about tasting or putting on flavored chapstick? I’m thinking the answer is no and I’m gonna assume it probably just tastes like chemicals to them since they are more sensitive but like??? I have so many vampire biology questions.

{½} Absolutely NOT a stupid question! Congrats on earning the post-final exhaustion ;D

I loooooooooooooove vampire biology questions

sign me the FRACK up šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘€šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘€šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘€šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘€šŸ‘ŒšŸ‘€ good shit go౦ԁ sHitšŸ‘ŒĀ and it required 2 separate answers so yeah that’s why this took so long, had to really consider it.

You are correct, Ricean vamps can’t eat food. Blood doesn’t need to be warm, specifically, but it needs to be coming from a LIVING victim.* Even more fun when that victim is almost blackout drunk like Louis is here (more on that in my second response to you):

image

I don’t recall any specific mentions of lipstick or chapstick in canon! ANY. So I’ll go with my own headcanon and say that it probably varies, vampire to vampire, but I would guess that their heightened senses make the texture of lipsticks and lipglosses interesting to wear and kiss on others.Ā

The flavored makeup would probably not taste good to them like it does for us since those flavors are meant to simulate actual food; cherry chapstick – which I personally love bc it gives you tint and a pleasant smell/taste – would probably taste like a smear of motor oil to a Ricean vampire.

Can you imagine Lestat pulling out a napkin and wiping off your lipstick before he kisses you?Ā ā€œThere that’s better. That ah…. color didn’t suit you.ā€

*Dead blood is not really poisonous on its own, but is just very distasteful, like really old coffee.

When Lestat is sickened in IWTV, it’s bc it’s dead blood, the victim’s soul had already left, but the blood was still warm from the laudanum. Vampires have an intense dislike for being near dead bodies, Lestat was probably so overcome that Claudia seemed to want a truce that he ignored all the red flags ;A;

what are your thoughts about sybelle? I just finished VA and I don’t know what to think. I just know I don’t quite like her nor benji (but I already see the post about him…) so I wanted to know what do ya think about her?? I love your blog btw it’s amazing and you’re a sweetie! <3

Merci beaucoup what a lovely thing to say! *u*

So, Sybelle! A rare one for ppl to ask about and rarely chosen for RP. I remember there was @sybelle-the-appassionata, but it looks like they’re on hiatus. There was also @play-the-appassionata, looks inactive now, but their archive might have smtg for you!

I don’t really have positive or negative feelings towards her, but in light of later canon, she’s become more solid, more believable, and I do hope AR develops her some more. There’s more to Sybelle than being ANOTHER beautiful blonde woman-child, and having a name of Greek derivation;Ā Sybelle means ā€œprophetess, oracle.ā€ Does she foresee things in canon? Not so much, IIRC, but maybe that has yet to happen.

^While I was thinking about your ask these last few days, I saw this Visual Development from Tangled by Claire Keane

[X] and thought WOW SYBELLE.

In fact I think the comparison is more than reasonable; Sybelle also seemed isolated in a tower, and further isolated herself with her obsession with the piano, specifically, Beethoven’s Appassionata.Ā

We have Sybelle to thank for waking Lestat from his coma, so I set my alarm to one of the stronger sections of theĀ Appassionata,

you really cannot ignore it or shut it out, and it’s NOT the most pleasant thing to wake up to. It works though, it really works. IT COULD WAKE THE DEAD. I had to change it after a few weeks, but try it!

Just try and tell me that Valentina Lisitsa isn’t basically Sybelle, just look at her! She’s just older.

For more on Sybelle, try my #sybelle and #the vampire sybelle tags. There’s a little fanart, cosplay, some meta by other ppl, some mentions of Benji (since he’s kind of part of her package deal!) and spoilers.Ā

*I don’t think I deserved the day, unless it was a punishment of some sort from a higher power for my sins. But my health is not improving, my best friend broke my heart and all my creative work I worked hard on was torn apart by critics. It feels like the whole world turned its back on me Monsieur.*

Any one of your issues would be enough to be legitimately sad about but having them all at once is cosmically unfair *frowns* I wish I could swoop in, take you in my arms, and solve all your problems for you. But that would be doing you a disservice, because it would steal the feeling of satisfaction that you’ll get when you overcome these things with your own power.Ā

You know, and please don’t take this the wrong way, bear with me for a moment; this reminds me of those exasperated people you see in crowded public places like shopping centers, sometimes with a number of brats hanging off of them, or some other burdens, or they’ve dropped their enormous coffee-desserts across their shoes, and you see them gaze skyward, cell phones glued to their heads, reporting to whoever will listen: ā€œGod is testing me. HE’S TESTING ME.ā€ They say it as if God was becoming a real nuisance, deriving some kind of sick pleasure in throwing obstacles at them. Do they deserve their obstacles? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Life is full of them, and you get them either way. Sometimes I myself am the obstacle when an evildoer meets their end.

Whether you believe in God (or Goddess!), a non-specific spiritual entity, or nothing at all, we’re all tested. It just rarely comes in the form or at the time we would prefer it to, does it?

I could cheerlead for you – in authentic uniform or in the nude – until the break of dawn, and you would absolutely enjoy it as long as it lasted, and the memory of it, believe me. But eventually, the joy wears away and you’re left with the weight of your obstacles once again. Ā

In my experience, you have to tackle each of your obstacles to earn your power back and have the wheels going your way again.

There will be times in your life when it feels like the whole world has turned its back on you. It happens. Better to get accustomed to pulling yourself back on your feet, dusting yourself off, and getting ready for another round. It’s better when we have supportive friends and family, but there were many times in my life when I was all I had. And I succeeded. It can be done.Ā

Let’s get down to brass tacks, as they say:

  • Your health is not improving? Find out whether it’s in your power to fix it. Is it as simple as getting more sleep? Better hydration? You’d be surprised how effective sleep is in curing crankiness, I remember this from my devoted mortal bandmates, as I nearly drove them mad rehearsing them into sleep deprivation. If it’s something you can’t fix, find a way to get to a professional who can guide you in this regard.
  • Best friends are excellent heartbreakers. They know your weaknesses and they know where to place the knife and turn it. If this is the end of that friendship, take time to heal and be glad it’s over, you’ll have that part of your life open for a new best friend when and if you’re ready for it. If this is not the end, take time to heal anyway, and try to heal with this person, if possible. But don’t let them hurt you again. Don’t become their punching bag.Ā
  • The number of times my creative work I worked hard on was torn apart by critics is just… I’ve lost count *ragged sigh*Ā I could never even start the count. It seems like every creativeĀ contribution I’ve made to anyone has unleashed harsh criticism. I take the constructive criticism to heart and have to let the rest roll off, otherwise I’d give up altogether. My creative output has always been mainly for myself so at the end of the night, as long as I’m happy with it, it doesn’t really matter what anyone else thinks. Art, music, and writing are all highly subjective. But occasionally, someone will point something out in my work that might be rephrased to better capture what I’m trying to express, and it endears me to that person who dared to suggest the improvement, that they dared test my infamous short fuse. I am trying to take this kind of constructive criticism better, believe it or not.Ā

I wish you the best, know that I’m supporting you from afar.
